Naomi Sims dead at 61

naomi-sims

Naomi Sims, regarded as the first African American supermodel, has died aged 61 after a long battle with cancer.

Sims became one of the first really successful African American models, becoming the first African American to grace the cover of Ladies Home Journal in 1967. She went on to gain worldwide recognition in the late 1960s into the early 1970s, modeling for Fernando Sánchez, Teal Traina, and Giorgio di Sant’Angelo, and appearing on the covers of prestigious fashion and popular magazines including the cover of Life magazine in 1969.

Discovering that wigs were designed primarily for white people, Sims launched her own beauty and wig company in 1973. Her designs, produced by the Metropa Company, had annual sales of $5 million by 1978. The company is still trading today, and includes designer clothes sold in department stores.

In later years, Sims became a successful author, writing books on modeling, health, and beauty, including “All About Health and Beauty for the Black Woman,” “How to Be a Top Model” and “All About Success for the Black Woman.”

Mariah Carey’s husband says Eminem will be punished by God

mariah-carey-diva

Nick Cannon is furious with the rapper for recording the track ‘The Warning’, in which he crudely talks about his brief relationship with Mariah in 2001, and has posted several bible verses on his Twitter page attacking Eminem.

Nick wrote: “Quote of the day, ‘Never argue with fools because from a distance people can’t tell who is who.’ ” He later added: “Never take your own revenge, but rather give place unto the
wrath. For it is written vengeance is mine, I will repay… PREACH! ‘I will bless those that bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse.’ Genesis 12:3.”

Nick’s response continued: “Be patient in the moment of anger and escape a hundred days of sorrow! People who project negativity ultimately are crying out for their own broken souls. Trying to save a hater is like trying to teach astrophysics to a wino!”

In ‘The Warning’ – recorded as a response to Mariah dressing up as Eminem in the video for her song ‘Obsessed’ – the hip-hop star talks graphically about his relationship with Mariah and threatens to leak intimate voice messages and pictures of them together.

Lyrics to Eminem’s ‘The Warning’ include: “B***h, shut the f**k up before I put all them phone calls out you made to my house. “Better shut your lying mouth if you don’t want Nick finding out. You probably think since it’s been so long if I had something on you I woulda did it by now.

“On the contrary, Mary Poppins, I’m mixing our studio session down and sending it to mastering to make it loud. Enough dirt on you to murder you. Mariah, it ever occur to you that I still have pictures? Call my bluff and I’ll release every f***ing thing I got including the voicemails right before you flipped your top.”

He goes on to describe intimate details about their sexual exploits, mentions her by name several times and brands her a “w***e” and “alcoholic”.

Mariah has previously insisted she is not mocking Eminem in her ‘Obsessed’ promo, saying: “Everybody started having their own speculations about who the stalker in the video was. When I look at that stalker and me with the beard, I look like my brother and my cousin Chris. So basically, you know, all the speculation about who I’m playing in the video, it’s not accurate.”

Michael Jackson’s Mother, Katherine Jackson, granted custody of his 3 kids

mjs-kids

Monday morning during a court hearing in L.A., Los Angeles Superior Court Judge, Mitchell Beckloff, ruled that Katherine Jackson will be the permanent guardian of her 3 grandchildren Prince Michael, 12, Paris, 11 and Prince Michael II, 7.

Katherine Jackson showed up for the hearing accompanied by her daughter Latoya and an entourage of Lawyers. Michael Jackson had named his mother in his will as his first choice to look after his children in the event that he should no longer be able to.

Katherine reached a deal last week with the two oldest children’s biological mother, Bebbie Rowe, to allow her visitation rights. The judge still has some details to work out concerning Michael Jackson’s estate, like whether Katherine will be granted a monthly allowance for her and the kids. It seems likely that it will be approved, since Michael was Katherine’s primary source of financial support.

We’re glad to see this situation is being handled properly by a judge who is thinking in a logical manner and thinking of Michael’s wishes and the kids welfare. It could have turned out a lot worse. We hope Katherine and the children all the best.

Tom Cruise is giving David and Victoria Beckham relationship advice

beckhamscruisemainr_482296a

Tom Cruise has reportedly been telling David and Victoria Beckham what they need to do in order to maintain a healthy balance between work and their private life.

David, 34, and 35-year-old Victoria were living apart while the soccer star played for Italian club AC Milan on loan earlier this year. Tom thinks it will be bad for their marriage if they live separately again if David decides to leave current team Los Angeles Galaxy.

A source said: “After an evening with David, Tom decided to have a friendly chat with Victoria about the family’s future. He talked to her about David aging, his soccer career, the pressures of disgruntled fans, the loneliness when away from the family and how time apart can make marriages fail. She knows Tom has a point because she saw how her and David’s recent trip to the Seychelles really improved their relationship. It seems his heart-to-heart had an impact on her.”

Since returning to the US, David has been subjected to abuse from angry supporters and it is believed he is unsure about staying with Los Angeles Galaxy. He is under contract until 2012 but is expected to seek a loan move back to Italy or England next January so he can win a place in the England national team at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Victoria stayed in Los Angeles with the couple’s three sons - Brooklyn, 10, six-year-old Romeo and four-year-old Cruz - while David played in Italy and is believed to be reluctant to leave the US where she has carved herself out a successful fashion career.

Meanwhile, David is to star in an advert with Arnold Schwarzenegger. The superstar sportsman and ‘Terminator’ actor have agreed to appear in the campaign to promote California to tourists.

David will be seen playing soccer on a beach, but it is not yet known what Arnold - who is the governor of the US state - will do for the ads. A source said: “It will be a massive campaign.”

Ryan O’Neal accidentally hits on daughter Tatum… at Farrah’s funeral

Ryan O’Neal admits to a doubly shocking faux pas in September’s issue of Vanity Fair.

At length, O’Neal discusses why he doesn’t believe he should have been a father. He describes the incident with Tatum at Farrah’s funeral:

“I had just put the casket in the hearse and I was watching it drive away when a beautiful blonde woman comes up and embraces me,” Ryan told me. “I said to her, ‘You have a drink on you? You have a car?’ She said, ‘Daddy, it’s me—Tatum!’ I was just trying to be funny with a strange Swedish woman, and it’s my daughter. It’s so sick.”

“That’s our relationship in a nutshell,” Tatum said when I asked her about it. “You make of it what you will.” She sighed. “It had been a few years since we’d seen each other, and he was always a ladies’ man, a bon vivant.”

Maintaining contact with only one of his several children (Redmond, his son with Farrah), O’Neal says he’s “never been happier.

“A couple of them I would take back.

“I don’t think I was supposed to be a father,” said the actor, who had Tatum, 45, and Griffin, 44, with first wife Joanna Moore; son Patrick, 42, with actress Leigh Taylor-Young; and son Redmond, 24, with Fawcett.

“Just look around at my work — they’re either in jail or they should be,” O’Neal said.

The Vanity Fair piece, entitled Beautiful People, Ugly Choices, is one of two VF covers for September. Farrah again is sharing the spotlight with Michael Jackson, who is the subject of the other September cover hitting newstands this week.

Paris Hilton’s former manager is writing a tell-all book about her

paris_hilton

Jason Moore has reportedly approached a number of publishers about the tome, which claims to be a business book about the steps he took to make Paris famous.

The New York Daily News newspaper claims Jason’s pitch letter states: “Jason will demonstrate how, for 10 years, he managed to save his mercurial client from disgrace by manipulating the media, and Paris herself.

“Paris was oftentimes her own worst enemy, making a sex tape with a former boyfriend, nursing hangovers during photo shoots, falling asleep everywhere, and getting thrown in jail for numerous driving violations. If Paris Hilton didn’t have Jason Moore pulling the strings, cleaning up her messes she could well have faded into oblivion.”

Jason - who parted ways with Paris last year - alleges he did not sign a confidentiality agreement while working for the 28-year-old hotel heiress. His book is called ‘Controlling Chaos’ and in it he claims Paris did all she could to ensure she became famous.

He says: “She spent hours at a time posing in front of the mirror, nailing down the ideal position to create the perfect paparazzi photo. She wanted to become the kind of character that would land commercials, international endorsements, film and TV roles.”

Neither Paris nor James, or his Literary Group agent Frank Weimann, have commented.

Meanwhile, Paris has reunited with her ex-boyfriend Doug Reinhardt. The pair split in June but Doug is said to have done everything in his power to win Paris back.

A source told gossip website X17online: “He is madly in love with her, and he can’t stand the thought of losing her. Even when she was in Dubai for a month, he proved his love to her by staying low key and not going out at all. Instead, he stayed at his parents’ home in Laguna Beach working out every single day. He really wanted to look good for Paris and show her how
serious he is about her. “He’s been calling her constantly and sending her beautiful presents - he is treating her like a princess, and Paris loves the attention!”

The couple have not commented, but Doug has written about having a girlfriend on his Twitter page. He put: “What an amazing weekend with my beautiful girlfriend. I love her so much!”

Sacha Baron Cohen will play a spoof European pop star in his next movie

sacha-baron-cohen

Sacha Baron Cohen is set to portray a singer who enters the Eurovision Song Contest - an annual singing competition previously won by ABBA.

Cohen originally planned to resurrect the character from his current hit film ‘Bruno’ - in which he plays a gay Austrian fashion of the same name - but he and his writing partner Dan Mazer decided against it.

A source said: “He and Dan thought it would be better if Sacha dreamed up another character, and the scope for another oddball creation is huge.”

The movie is expected to be another fake documentary in the style of ‘Bruno’ and ‘Borat…’ - in which Cohen played a Kazakhstani TV reporter traveling across America.

The script is ready and the as-yet untitled film is expected to be released in 2011. Meanwhile, Cohen has agreed to play Spanish twins in new movie ‘Downsizing’.

The 37-year-old actor will portray two brothers who are identical apart from their height in the film, which also stars Reese Witherspoon and Meryl Streep.

According to reports, Cohen - who is engaged to Australian actress Isla Fisher, with whom he has a 22-month-old daughter Olive - is being paid around $7 million for the movie.

Michael Jackson was allegedly killed by an aide while his doctor slept

michael-jackson

The pop legend - who died of a suspected cardiac arrest on June 25 - had been given surgical anesthetic Propofol by his personal physician Dr. Conrad Murray earlier in the day and is thought to have awoken when the drugs wore off and demanded pain relief.

However, Murray was asleep at the time so one of Michael’s aides reportedly gave him a shot of powerful painkiller Demerol and the combination of the pain relief and Propofol - also known as Diprivan - is thought to have triggered a fatal heart attack.

An insider told Britain’s The Sun newspaper: “Murray would set up a system to give Michael a steady intravenous release of Diprivan through the night.

“But this time Michael woke up before Murray did and asked one of his aides for some Demerol. The aide gave it to him, but it was too soon after receiving the anaesthetic. That’s what killed him.”

When Murray - who is being investigated for manslaughter - awoke he found the 50-year-old star had stopped breathing and desperately tried to revive him.

Murray is said to have confessed to Los Angeles police about administering Propofol - which should only be given in a hospital environment - two days after Michael died.

However, his lawyer has always insisted Murray denies giving the ‘Thriller’ singer anything that killed him. Michael is thought to have first taken Demerol in 1984 to help ease the pain of the burnt scalp he suffered while filming a Pepsi TV commercial.

Meanwhile, Michael’s sister La Toya believes her brother is performing for the angels in heaven.
Writing on her blog, she said: “Michael, after 50 years of waiting, God has finally called you home to do what you do best.

“He shared your extraordinary talent with us all for many decades and now it’s time for you to spread your wings to a much higher level, which of course I know you will do, and join the other angels and give them an incredible eternal performance.”

Hot: Milla Jovovich collects weapons

milla-jovovich

Milla Jovovich - who has a 21-month-old daughter Ever Gabo with her partner, director Paul W.S. Anderson - says she was never interested in traditional childhood toys and has carried her passion for martial arts and combat into her adult life.

She said: “I have so many weapons at home. It’s not like I sit at home twirling knives, but I’ve always been into handling weapons. As a kid I liked ninja warriors, not dolls. I have some kukris. They are one-handed knives and a bit like machetes, very vicious instruments with a curved blade. They are used for hacking and I love them because they are so versatile. You can really get into the meat of an animal, slice cucumbers and kill zombies - all in one day.”

The 33-year-old star loves to take her interest into her professional life, explaining that tough action scenes and daredevil stunts are her favourite things about making movies.

She added: “I get a thrill out of doing dangerous stunts. In ‘A Perfect Getaway’ I have to steer a kayak close to sharp rocks, miles off the coast of Puerto Rico. It’s dangerous - there’s a very high tide and if my boat tips over I’ll go face-first on to the rocks. It’s so gruelling trying to
get this kayak to go where I want it to go.

“Then I have a vicious cat fight with a girl who is trying to kill me. We have knives and we’re hitting and punching each other on the edge of a cliff, rolling around in the dust.

“I’m working on ‘Resident Evil: Extinction’, in which I have to jump off a container, twirl with my knives and come down into the sand. It’s one of the most challenging scenes I’ve ever done.

“It’s so hot in Mexico, where we’re filming, that I have to put a bag of ice cubes on my head between takes. The hot sand is blowing and it’s difficult just to stand, let alone do tough acrobatics and martial arts. You’re ready to pass out, you are hooked up to wires wearing a huge coat and you can’t have a break. It takes a lot of energy.”

Brad Pitt has hinted he wants to quit acting

Brad Pitt

Brad Pitt - who raises six children with partner Angelina Jolie - feels he has achieved almost everything he wants to do in his career and doesn’t believe there are as many possibilities for him as he gets older.

He said: “I think acting is a younger man’s game; there are fewer interesting parts for older people and we all get older. But I feel like I’ve done it. I’ve kind of had my time and that’s quite freeing.

“Of course there are still acting dreams left for me. But I’ll do them first
and then we’ll talk about them.”

Brad and Angelina - who have homes in France, California and New Orleans - move their family with them wherever in the world they are working on a movie and the ‘Inglourious Basterds’ star insists it is a lifestyle with many benefits for their children,

He explained: “Everywhere is interesting in its own way, each place has its own feel and something to offer: you pick up something, the kids are picking up something. They have this world view which we are very proud and happy that we are able to provide.

“We get peace in our lives. We got out here a couple of days early with the family and we get to hang out in a place in Provence. We’re pretty good at it. You carve out that time for the family. Do we get a little silence with the kids? No, not that kind of silence - silence is over at home, but we like that chaos.”
