Courtney Love: Kurt would find Guitar Hero 5 “really funny”

“i think Kurt would despise this game alone let alone this avatar.”

So said Courtney Love on how she thought Kurt Cobain may perceive his digital likeness in Guitar Hero 5. The above claim was tweeted by Love back in September 2009, but now things are different, it seems. In an interview with the NME, Love says her late husband would find his appearance in Guitar Hero 5 “really funny.”

“What pisses me off the most about it is I think Kurt would be fine with having five Kurt Cobains singing the (Spice Girls) song Wannabe, like, ‘Tell me what you want, what you really really want,’ Love told the music mag. “I think he’d find that really funny.”

Oh great, so you’re dropping that lawsuit against Activision then, Courtney? Oh …

“But at the same time it’s gross what they did. Gwen [Stefani - another stroppy star suing Activision for how her band No Doubt appears in Band Hero] started the lawsuit. I have really good lawyers now and will join that lawsuit.”

So in conclusion, Courtney Love:

1. Thinks Kurt would despise Guitar Hero 5.
2. Thinks Kurt would find Guitar Hero 5 really funny.
3. Is still suing Activision, despite signing away Cobain’s likeness on a contract.
4. Has a coke mountain that’s looking a little low.

Great, glad we got that all sorted.

Illustrator Nick Dewar dies at 37

Illustrator Nick Dewar, popular in design circles but perhaps best publicly known for his cover of book The Devil Wears Prada, has died at the age of 37, his agent Kate Larkworthy confirms.

No cause of death has been announced and details are scant at this point. Nick Dewar was born in Scotland, and lived Prague, London and New York before settling in California with his wife.

Dewar’s agent posted the following statement on her Facebook page:

Nick Dewar–what a lovely man and dedicated friend. I can’t believe he is gone in body but never, ever, ever in spirit. They surely threw away the mold when they made Nick. Those of us who were lucky to know him will have a void in our lives forever. Nick’s wife, Sri, can be reached at (redacted).

A small family service will be held in Newport Beach later this week. A memorial service will be held in New York at a later date. Contributions can be made in Nick’s name to radio station WFMU New Jersey.

If you’re interested in learning a bit more about Dewar, Design*Sponge did a profile of the artist and his home last year. You can also check out his stylish website, a showcase of many of his colorful, whimsical works.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s Unity Show at the DGA Event

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie put on a show of unity at the Directors Guild of America Awards (DGAs) on Saturday night, January 30.

The couple, who have been plagued by rumors they are set to split, turned up at the Los Angeles ceremony together, much to the surprise of other guests as Angelina wasn’t expected to attend.

But she was keen to show her support to Brad, who presented the Feature Film Nomination Plaque to Quentin Tarantino, his director in ‘Inglourious Basterds’.

An onlooker said, “Brad and Angelina were sitting next to each other at dinner at the DGAs. Brad had his arms folded. Angie smiling at his jokes as he spoke about Quentin and his feature film nomination for ‘Inglourious Basterds’. He was all about being there for Quentin, but she was there to make her presence known.”

However, the couple, who raise six children together, refused to walk the red carpet and weren’t pictured together.

Last week, it was claimed they were set to call time on their five-year relationship after signing legal documents which divided their $330 million fortune and custody of the children – adopted Maddox, eight, Pax, six, and Zahara, five, as well as biological kids, Shiloh, three, and 18-month-old twins Knox and Vivienne.

However, it was since been claimed they only signed the papers as a precaution and have no intention of separating.

Sources close to the couple insist “everything is fine” between them, while Angelina’s father Jon Voight branded the reports “nonsense”.

Pamela Anderson Wants UK Home

Pamela Anderson is planning to buy a British holiday home.

The actress, most famous for her role as glamorous lifeguard C.J. Parker in US drama ‘Baywatch,’ is looking at resorts on the English coast, including Bournemouth, Blackpool, Brighton and Morecambe Bay, while also house-hunting in London.

Her agent, Toby St Just, told The Sun newspaper, “Pammy loves it in England and is looking at buying two houses, one in London and one by the sea.

“It’ll be a far cry from California, where all the people are tanned and beautiful. And she may find the pebble beaches take a little getting used to.

“But she has a real affection for the place and would love to have somewhere she can call home.

“She hasn’t decided where yet, she’s still looking at the options.”

Ex-Playboy model Pamela was in England over the Christmas period, where she starred in pantomime, a family comedy production, as the genie of the lamp in a version of Aladdin in London.

The 42-year-old star is currently living in a trailer on the grounds of her home in Malibu, California, with sons Brandon, 13, and Dylan, 11 – her children with ex-husband Tommy Lee – while her property is being renovated.

The ‘Barb Wire’ star, who is currently single after splitting from boyfriend Jamie Padgett, recently revealed that the boys have got so fond of their temporary accommodation in the family’s guest house trailer that they don’t want to leave.

She said, “It’s where all my motorcycles, surfboards and all the fun stuff for the kids is kept, but now that we are in there the kids don’t want to leave.

“Even though my house is almost done and we are getting through this contractor hell.”

Katy Perry Found Out Russell Brand Proposal Through Google Alerts

Katy Perry found out Russell Brand was going to propose to her through Google alerts.

The ‘I Kissed A Girl’ singer, who got engaged to the British funnyman over the New Year, discovered the proposal was imminent after reading about Russell shopping for a ring on the internet search engine.

Katy, 25, said, “Unfortunately, I still Google myself sometimes, I saw it on Google alerts. I’m going to be honest!”

Russell admitted, “I was buying rings.”

Despite having the inkling that Russell was going to propose, Katy was stunned when the 34-year-old comedian made his grand gesture while they were holidaying in India.

Russell, 34, explained, “There was an elephant involved. We were on an elephant just before it.

“We were in India, It was at midnight, and it is not a good idea to be on the back of an elephant during a fireworks display.”

Katy added, “They can’t tell the difference between an apocalypse and New Year’s Eve.”

The couple attended an exclusive pre-Grammy Awards party in Los Angeles last night, January 31, and Russell was in a mischievous mood.

Joking about the cocaine, former drug addict Russell said, “Grammys. I know why it’s called that. That’s how much coke you need to cope with it.”

Upon hearing this, Katy got upset and told him, “Stop it and behave! I don’t want to upset the Grammys, I want one.”

The Salute To Icons event was held to celebrate the work of Universal boss Doug Morris before the Grammys ceremony.

The big winner on the night was Beyonce Knowles, who scooped six honours – a record for a female artist – including Song of the Year for ‘Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)’ and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for ‘Halo’.

Camila Alves Bans Matthew McConaughey from Having Sex

Matthew McConaughey has been banned from having sex for 40 days.

The actor’s partner Camila Alves gave birth to the couple’s second child, daughter Vida, three weeks ago and she has told him he has to wait until they can make love again.

The Brazilian beauty said, “Where I come from – Brazil – we believe in something we call a 40-day break after the baby. You have to let your body do its own thing. You give it time to recover and let everything settle down.

“You kind of respect all the hard work your body has just done and give it a break. For these 40 days, you really take it easy. By that I mean no sex, light and healthy food, no trips to the gym. Then, after 40 days, you are good to go.”

Although Matthew might be looking forward to having sex again, Camila, who also has an 18-month-old son, Levi, with the Hollywood hunk, can’t wait until she can exercise once more.

She added to website Stylist.com, “I confess, I am getting a little anxious to work out. I miss it. Not just to get my body back in shape, but for me, for my head!”

Stephen Colbert shows off shiny new iPad at the Grammys

If you watch the Colbert Report, you know that Stephen’s been begging for an iPad all week (I think he finagled an iPhone that way), sometimes just looking into the camera and saying, “I want an iPad. Give me one.”

During the Grammy’s last night, it appeared Stephen got his wish. No word on whether it was just a loner like those fancy Harry Winston necklaces or he gets to keep the thing, but Colbert produced one after pretending to misplace his envelope bearing the name of the winner for “Song of the Year.” He casually asked Jay-Z if Hovito didn’t get one in his giftbag, before asking his daughter in the audience if she finally thought her dad was cool. (She nodded no.)

Below is a clip of the iPad Grammy debut, and since the ending is cut off- Beyonce won best song, for “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on it.)” Kanye was nowhere in sight.

Simon Cowell’s Helping Charity Single Ready

Simon Cowell’s Helping Haiti charity single was completed on Saturday night, January 30.

The song, a cover of REM’s 1992 single ‘Everybody Hurts’, features 21 artists, including Rod Stewart, Mariah Carey, Jon Bon Jovi and Susan Boyle, all of whom rushed to record their vocals in London and Los Angeles for the track.

‘Bleeding Love’ singer Leona Lewis has the privilege of opening the ballad, while Kylie Minogue and Robbie Williams duet on a chorus line together.

Take That members Gary Barlow and Mark Owen sing separate lines, but following each other, as do Westlife members Shane Filan and Mark Feehily.

The recording was overseen by Simon and producer Steve Robson, who has previously worked with Take That, and the project came together in little over a week.

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has agreed to waive Value Added Tax (VAT) on sales of the song, and REM will relinquish all royalty payments from the record, so as much money as possible can go to helping those stricken by the two huge earthquakes which hit Haiti last month.

REM manager Bertis Downs said of the recording, “We are deeply touched the song has been chosen for this Haiti campaign.

“It means a lot that the song the guys wrote all those years ago will be used for such an important appeal.”

The single will be released on Sunday, February 7, and bosses of the BRIT Awards are in discussion to use the song as part of their event on February 16.

Michael Jackson’s Children Accept Grammy Lifetime Achievement

Michael Jackson’s eldest two children accepted a lifetime achievement award on behalf of their late father at last night’s Grammys, January 31.

Prince Michael, 12, and 11-year-old Paris received a standing ovation as they took to the stage at Los Angeles’ Staples Center, where their dad’s public memorial was held last July, to collect the honour and then paid an emotional tribute to him.

Prince said, “We are proud to be here to accept this award on behalf of our father, Michael Jackson.

“First of all, we’d like to thank God for watching over us for these past seven months, and our grandma and grandpa for their love and support. We would also like the fans. Our father loved you so much because you were always there for him.

“Our father was always concerned about the planet and humanity. Through all his hard work and dedication, he has helped many charities and donated to all of them. Through all his songs, his message was simple – love.”

A musical tribute was also paid to the legendary ‘Thriller’ singer, in which stars, including Celine Dion, Usher, Jennifer Hudson and Smokey Robinson, sang one of his biggest hits ‘Earth Song’, accompanied by a 3-D mini-film which was created by Jackson as part of his planned ‘This Is It’ tour.

“I’d like to thank my family including my husband, I love you.”

However, she was beaten to the coveted Album of the Year by country singer Taylor Swift, who has honored for her LP ‘Fearless’, as well as winning a further three awards.
