Roberts, Eastwood and More Lead Oscar Snubs

Los Angeles, CA, United States (CNS) – Of course Sandra Bullock and Meryl Streep are in the list, so are George Clooney and Jeff Bridges. But others weren’t as lucky. Diane Kruger, Marion Cotillard, Julia Roberts, and Clint Eastwood are just some of those who got an Oscar snub.

The nominees for the 82nd Academy Awards were announced Tuesday, with James Cameron’s “Avatar” and Kathryn Bigelow’s “The Hurt Locker” leading the nods list.

Although the Best Picture category has been expanded to include 10 films instead of just 5, “Star Trek” and “Invictus” were probably still not good enough to be included.

“Invictus” earned stars Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon mentions for best actor and best supporting actor respectively, but Eastwood was left out of the best director category.

“Nine” stars Cotillard, and Daniel-Day Lewis also weren’t called. Penelope Cruz was the only actress from the bunch of stars in the film nominated for an Oscar.

Some of those snubbed from the prestigious list include “The Hangover,” “(500) Days of Summer,” “It’s Complicated,” and actors Roberts, Rosamund Pike (“An Education”), Tobey Maguire (“Brothers”), and Jeremy Renner (“The Hurt Locker”).

Victoria Beckham Likes Playing School Dinner Lady

Victoria Beckham loves being a school dinner lady.

The former Spice Girl-turned-fashion designer is a regular visitor to the schools of her three sons, Brooklyn, ten, Romeo, seven, and four-year-old Cruz, and enjoys helping out whenever she can.

Victoria, who lives in Los Angeles with her soccer star husband David and the three boys said, “I travel a fair amount, and when I’m here in Los Angeles, everything revolves around the kids. So if I’m not working, I go to the school and help serve lunches to the children.

“They just love that. It’s like, Oh, there’s mummy serving me!’ The other day I was there, I was reading to Cruz’s class. All the little girls were saying, ‘We really like your dress.’ And it was quite cute because I don’t have a girl.”

As well as being a devoted wife and mother, the 35-year-old brunette says fashion plays a huge part in her life and she knows how to make the best of herself.

She said in an interview with America’s Glamour magazine, “I love fashion, and that’s how I express myself. I think about what I’m going to wear before I go to bed at night.

“When I dress in a certain way and do my hair and make-up in a certain way, it’s not to get attention. I’m not a supermodel. I make the best of what I’ve got. I work out to look the best that I can, but I’m no Gisele.”

Actor Justin Mentell of “Boston Legal” dies in car crash

Actor Justin Mentell, best known for the courtroom drama “Boston Legal,” has died in a car crash.

Police say Mentell’s 2005 Jeep veered into an embankment about an hour southwest of Madison, Wisconsin, hitting two trees. Mentell was reportedly thrown from the car and died at the scene. The accident occurred at about 9am yesterday, and alcohol and drugs are not believed to be a factor.

Mentell, 27, most recently worked on the movie “G Force” and also was a member of the U.S. Junior National Speedskating team. Mentell studied Fine Arts and Northern Illinois University, and appeared in several independent films during that time. He won a Golden Reel award for his performance in “At The Still Point” in 2005.

Janet Jackson Waits For Michael’s Call

Janet Jackson still expects her late brother Michael to call her.

The ‘All For You’ singer, the younger sister of the ‘Thriller’ star, who died last June from acute Propofol intoxication aged 50, says her grief gets easier with every day that passes, but she would do anything to hear him speak again.

She said, “It gets sad sometimes because, I don’t know, you think your phone is going to ring and you hear that voice calling your name. But, yeah, life goes on and everybody grieves differently. And every day is different. Some days it’s much easier than others.”

Janet, 43, also revealed Michael’s untimely passing made her realise she needed to make changes in her life.

She said in an interview with Wonderland magazine, “A lot of people in this industry have a lot of ‘yes’ people. That I can tell you I do not have. A lot has changed in my life this year, a lot of changes, I think I’m kind of heading in a different direction for sure.”

One ambition Janet now wants to fulfill is to “kick somebody’s a*s” in an action movie.

She said, “There was a time when I met with the Wachowski brothers to do ‘The Matrix’, a long time ago but there were scheduling conflicts. I want to kick somebody’s a*s. Anybody’s, as long as I get to kick somebody’s a*s. Kick a new hole in their butt. Rip ‘em a new butthole, I’d love to do that.”

Jay-Z Expects Beyonce to Win Music Awards

Jay-Z expects wife Beyonce Knowles to win music awards, because she’s so “magnificent”.

The ‘99 Problems’ rapper, whose spouse took home a record-breaking six gongs at the Grammy Awards on Sunday night, January 31, is always confident the ‘Halo’ singer will win whenever she is nominated.

He said, “It’s almost got to a point where you just, you know, you’re almost numb to it because she’s so magnificent every single time.”

Beyonce, 28, also performed at the ceremony covering Alanis Morissette’s ‘You Oughta Know’, as well as singing her own song ‘If I Were A Boy’, and husband Jay-Z admits he never felt so proud of her.

He said, “I’m a fan, you know, I’m a big fan.”

The hip-hop star also spoke about how he believes Usher is in line to fill Michael Jackson’s “huge shoes” as the new ‘King of Pop’.

Referring to the performance of ‘Earth Song’ in tribute to Michael at the ceremony, Jay-Z told Access Hollywood, “I thought the Michael Jackson tribute was fantastic and I thought Usher was doing a magnificent job. I think he’s one of the guys that’s in line to fill those huge shoes.

“I don’t wanna put that pressure on him, but I think he’s one of the guy’s that’s in line to do that.”

The tribute, which featured Celine Dion, Usher, Jennifer Hudson and Smokey Robinson among others, was accompanied by a 3-D mini-film which was created by Michael as part of his planned ‘This Is It’ London residency.

Michael Jackson’s Family Furious Over Tribute Snub

Michael Jackson’s family are furious after being snubbed by the Grammy Awards.

The late ‘Thriller’ star, who died from an acute Propofol intoxication last June, was honored with a special musical tribute to mark being given a posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award but organizers failed to invite his siblings, including those who performed in The Jackson 5 with him, to the star-studded music awards show in Los Angeles on Sunday, January 31.

His brother and former bandmate Randy tweeted, “So proud, my brother being honored tonight with the Lifetime Achievement Award. My family would love to be there but, truth is, we weren’t invited.

“Do you want more truth? Let me be clear. When I said ‘my family’ I meant my brothers, sisters and parents.”

Michael’s three children, Paris, 11, Prince Michael I, 12, and seven-year-old Prince Michael II – aka Blanket – were there to honor their father but Randy is convinced the children were only invited as an afterthought.

A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper, “Randy was incandescent. He believed the Grammys only thought of including Michael’s children at the 11th hour as dad Joe Jackson complained there was no family representation.

“The brothers were hoping to attend and wear their silver gloves and matching suits to honor their brother. They feel insulted and hurt that they have been snubbed in this way. Michael would’ve wanted them there.

“The Jackson 5 was where the magic began. They’re a huge part of his story and felt they had been horribly overlooked.”

The eldest children took to the stage wearing black suits with red armbands to accept the late ‘Thriller’ singer’s award – which he was given for his contribution to the music industry, while Blanket remained backstage with his grandmother Katherine Jackson.

A source said, “Michael’s children themselves decided just Prince Michael I and Paris would speak on stage and accept the award on behalf of their dad.”

Meanwhile, Michael’s older brother Tito – who along with the ‘Billie Jean’ star, Randy, and siblings Jermaine, Jackie, and Marlon had performed with The Jacksons – is being sued after allegedly failing to perform at a tribute show for his brother in the US.

Promoter Roy Isaac has told Tito to repay the £4,700 he was paid for the concert within 30 days or he could face legal action.

Avatar, Hurt Locker lead Oscar nominations with 9 each

Not to be cliched, but this could totally be the plot of a movie.

Not only are “Avatar” and “The Hurt Locker” like total film opposites- big budget vs. tiny indie, sci-fi family friendly film vs. heavy war movie- the respective directors are married couple James Cameron and Kathryn Bigelow. (Awkward.) Less dramatically chosen for best film were “The Blind Side,” “District 9,” “An Education,” “Inglourious Basterds,” “Precious,” “A Serious Man,” “Up,” and “Up in the Air.”

Best Actor nominees are Jeff Bridges (“Crazy Heart”) George Clooney (“Up in the Air”), Colin Firth (“A Single Man”), Morgan Freeman (“Invictus”), and Jeremy Renner (“The Hurt Locker”). In the running for Best Actress are Sandra Bullock (“The Blind Side”), Helen Mirren (“The Last Station”), Carey Mulligan (“An Education”), Gabourey Sidibe (“Precious”) and Meryl Streep (“Julie & Julia”).

Penelope Cruz, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Vera Farmiga, Anna Kendrick and Mo’Nique all got nominated for Best Supporting Actress; and Woody Harrelson, Matt Damon, Stanley Tucci, Christoper Plummer and Christoph Waltz received nods for Best Supporting Actor.

“Coraline,” “The Fantastic Mr. Fox,” “The Princess and the Frog,” “The Secret of Kells,” and “Up” are up for Best Animated Film. You can see a full list of the nominees here.

Charlize Theron’s Mystery Man

Charlize Theron reportedly enjoyed a date with a mystery man just weeks after splitting from her partner of nine years.

The Oscar-winning beauty, who is rumored to have called off her relationship with actor Stuart Townsend over the Christmas period, was seen having a meal at Hollywood’s exclusive Chateau Marmont last week with the handsome male and onlookers says they looked more than friends.

One said, “It looked like a date. They had dinner, then left together.”

Over the weekend, it was claimed Charlize had told friends she split from Stuart after a trip to Mexico over the festive period, and had stopped wearing an antique commitment ring he had given her as a sign of his love.

A friend of the couple said, “Stuart is gutted but Charlize said that she realized during the Mexican holiday the relationship was over. They had become more like brother and sister than lovers. It was she who ended it.”

The 34-year-old actress, who is yet to comment on the reports – is now reportedly living in their main home in the Hollywood Hills, while he has moved his belongings into their beach house.

Stuart has previously spoken about how he considered Charlize to be his wife, even though they’d never married.

He said, “I didn’t do a church wedding or anything but we consider ourselves husband and wife. I don’t need a certificate or the state or the church to say otherwise.”

Alex Reid Set to Propose to Katie Price

Alex Reid admits Katie Price is ‘The One,’ and has hinted he is ready to propose to her.

The cage-fighter, who was crowned the winner of British reality TV show ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ last week, is madly in love with the model and is getting ready to pop the question.

He said, “She’s ‘The One’, 100 per cent. I’ve completely realised how fantastic she is. How generous and kind she is, and how much I fancy her. She is just the perfect woman for me.”

When quizzed on whether he was on the brink of proposing, Alex replied, “That’s a secret. I’ve got lots of plans but I’m going to keep them a mystery.”

Alex, 34, also hopes the public will stop giving him and 31-year-old Katie such a hard time.

The couple endured a torrid few months when they started dating following Katie’s split from now ex-husband Peter Andre, but the muscle-bound hunk believes people will now be able to see they are not bad people.

Alex added in an interview with Britain’s Star magazine, “She’s my girlfriend, I love her and I don’t want to see her suffer like that.

Perhaps I can help change that now. I hope I can. That’s part of the reason I did the show, I wanted people to stop giving her grief because she was with me.”
