Star Trek’s Chris Pine will be going where Harrison Ford, Alec Baldwin and Ben Affleck have gone before with news that he looks set to play Jack Ryan in the next Tom Clancy based movie.

Studio Paramount confirmed the gossip, saying in a statement that “Tom Clancy created an unfortgettable character with Jack Ryan. With Chris in the role, we’ve taken our first step in creating a reboot that lives up to the successful lineage of the franchise.”

Detail on the new Jack Ryan based film are sketchy with Variety reporting that producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura (G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra) and Mace Neufeld are said to be currently working with writer Hossein Amini (The Four Feathers) on the movie, which is said to be a complete “reboot” of the series.

Disturbing perhaps, reports claim that the new Jack Ryan movie will not be based on a Clancy book, but instead be an original. Given how much they f*cked up the original time-lines and stories in the previous Jack Ryan based movies, maybe that’s not a completely bad thing.

British singer Leona Lewis was attacked at a book signing for her memoir Dreams earlier today in London.

According to reports Lewis was signing books and posing for pictures at the Waterstone’s bookstore in Piccadilly when a man stepped up and punched her in the head in an unprovoked attack. He was restrained by security guards until police arrived at the scene and arrested him.

“Leona was the victim of an unprovoked attack this afternoon at her book signing” Lewis’ reps said in a statement. “The police were called immediately and medical attention has been sought. Leona is understandably shaken and apologizes to the fans she was unable to meet and complete signings.”

The unnamed 29-year-old man is being held in custody on suspicion of assault. It is not known why he attacked Lewis, and witnesses said that he said nothing before or after attacking her.

Michael Jackson has been nominated for five American Music Awards.

The pop legend who died on June 25, is in the running to be named Artist of the Year at the prestigious event and will be up against Taylor Swift, Eminem, Kings of Leon and Lady Gaga.

The ‘Thriller’ singer is also nominated for Favorite Male Artist in both the Pop or Rock and the Soul/Rhythm and Blues categories, and Favorite Album for his ‘Number Ones’ LP in both of the categories.

Country singer Taylor Swift leads the list with six nominations, while Eminem received four.

Taylor, whose acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards last month was interrupted by Kanye West – who insisted Beyonce Knowles should have won – is up for Favorite Pop or Rock Female Artist alongside Lady Gaga and Beyonce.

She could also win Favourite Country Album, Favourite Adult Contemporary Artist, Favourite Pop or Rock Album, Favourite Female Country Artist and the prestigious Artist of the Year prize.

The nominees were selected through a measurement combining sales and radio airplay and the winners are determined by an online vote of fans. They will be announced at a Los Angeles ceremony on November 22.

Black Eyed Peas, nominated for Favourite Band, Duo or Group along with Kings of Leon and Nickelback – will perform at the ceremony along with Alicia Keys and Jennifer Lopez.

Sir Ian McKellen thinks he’s too old to star in another ‘X-Men’ film.

The Hollywood veteran who has played mutant villain Magneto in three of the comic book movies, says it is unlikely he will reprise the role for a spin-off film about the character because of his wrinkles.

He joked to website EmpireOnline, “There’s meant to be a ‘Magneto’ script floating around, but I’ve not read it, so I suspect it wouldn’t involve me – I think it would be about the younger Magneto, and the most I could hope for would be to top and tail that.

“They can’t have someone whose face is as lined as mine any longer!”

However, the 70-year-old actor was impressed by his 69-year-old friend Patrick Stewart’s appearance in ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ earlier this year.

Ian explained, “He was very pleased with himself that he was going in to be in ‘Wolverine’. It was only an hour’s work! We were working on ‘Waiting For Godot’ at the time!”

In the war against whiny-pants parents who think the new, highly anticipated film adaptation of Where The Wild Things Are might be too scary for some children, author Maurice Sendak isn’t pulling any punches.

There have been rumblings over whether the film may be too scary for kids with delicate sensibilities and Sendak, Spike Jonze (who directed) and Dave Eggers (who adapted the film and is partially responsible for the awesome Superhero Supply Store in Brooklyn) sat down with Newsweek to discuss the movie. Childhood used to be a messy, loud and unpredictable affair, and as culture becomes increasingly watered down for “the children,” those who remember a less sanitized world for children lament the worldwide childproofing that seems to be occurring. Sendak seems to agree.

The iconic children’s author spoke his mind to Newsweek about the detrimental effects of too much Disney and parents who might feel trepidation about whether Where The Wild Things Are is appropriate for their snowflakes:

What do you say to parents who think the Wild Things film may be too scary?

Sendak: I would tell them to go to hell. That’s a question I will not tolerate.

Because kids can handle it?

Sendak: If they can’t handle it, go home. Or wet your pants. Do whatever you like. But it’s not a question that can be answered.

Jonze: Dave, you want to field that one?

Eggers: The part about kids wetting their pants? Should kids wear diapers when they go to the movies? I think adults should wear diapers going to it, too. I think everyone should be prepared for any eventuality.

Sendak: I think you’re right. This concentration on kids being scared, as though we as adults can’t be scared. Of course we’re scared. I’m scared of watching a TV show about vampires. I can’t fall asleep. It never stops. We’re grown-ups; we know better, but we’re afraid.

Why is that important in art?

Sendak: Because it’s truth. You don’t want to do something that’s all terrifying. I saw the most horrendous movies that were unfit for child’s eyes. So what? I managed to survive.

Jared Leto has reportedly fired his management team.

The singer-and-actor has reportedly parted ways with advisors just one month before his band 30 Seconds To Mars are due to release new its album, ‘This Is War’.

A source told Britain’s The Sun newspaper, “Jared is too controlling. This latest move just feels like self-sabotage.

“It’s very strange timing as his management team was very good. His tour manager has now left too.

“No one can quite believe what’s happening.”

Record company bosses have refused to be drawn on the reports.

A representative said, “I have heard rumors of the guys parting company but nothing has been confirmed.”

The 37-year-old star is notoriously precious about his music career, and refuses to discuss films he has been in when promoting his records.

Meanwhile, Jared has spoken out in support of gay rights group FAIR.

The organization has persuaded a number of celebrities to autograph copies of a poster supporting gay marriage, which are to be auctioned online.

Jared, 37, decided to make his poster a little different to the rest, by writing the words of the Proposition 8 ballot – which was passed in California in 2008, and outlaws gay marriage – on it and then setting in alight.

He then placed the ashes in a jar, writing on, “Here lies within, the remains of Proposition 8, may it rest in peace.”

Jessica Simpson believes her dead dog would want her to have another pooch.

The singer-and-actress who was left devastated when her Maltipoo Daisy was taken by a coyote last month, is struggling to come to terms with the loss of her pet, but draws comfort in knowing Daisy would want her to move on.

She said, “I haven’t really thought about another dog yet, but maybe sometime. Daisy would want that.”

Jessica, 29, still finds it hard to discuss Daisy, who was a gift from her ex-husband Nick Lachey.

She admitted, “Daisy meant the world to me. I hold her memory very, very close. It was an unfortunate thing what happened. That I don’t have her every day… It’s a very hard thing to talk about.”

Daisy was snatched as Jessica looked on.

She immediately began a campaign to get the dog back, posting messages on her Twitter account and placing posters around her neighborhood calling for information.

Earlier this week, Jessica – who joked Daisy was a lesbian after she struck up a close friendship with another female dog – revealed people had been falsely claiming Daisy was alive.

She wrote on her Twitter webpage, “People have been contacting my family and friends saying that Daisy has been found. Untrue. People are so cruel… please respect her memory (sic).”

Stephen Gately had an undetected heart condition which killed him, his family believes.

A post mortem examination carried out on the 33-year-old Boyzone star – who died at his holiday home in Palma, Majorca on Saturday October 10 – ruled he had died from a pulmonary oedema, a build up of fluid on the lungs, which is often connected to heart problems.

The singer’s mother Margaret Gately told family friend, lawyer Gerald Kean, “As soon as I heard he had died I knew it was a heart problem. It has lifted a huge burden off our family’s shoulders.”

Gerald added, “There is a heart condition on his dad Martin’s side of the family. Stephen would have had no idea he had this condition.”

After seeing several family members die of heart problems, Stephen’s relatives will now undergo checks to see if they have any similar health conditions.

Medical experts confirmed the post mortem tests suggest he may have been a victim of Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS), caused by an undetected heart condition.

Dr. Sanjay Sharma, consultant cardiologist at King’s College hospital, London, a leading expert in SADS said, “The fact they found waterlogged lungs in this young man suggests his heart failed suddenly. That is a heart attack.

“In young people like Stephen, the vast majority of heart attacks are due to either hereditary diseases affecting the heart muscle itself or an electrical fault of the heart.

“If I was a betting man I would say it was an electrical fault. The heart would go into a fatally fast rhythm. That would only need to happen for a couple of minutes to cause death. Often in these cases, the first symptom is death.”

It had previously been speculated Stephen had died after choking on his own vomit after a night out with his husband Andy Cowley.

However, local officials have been keen to stress that alcohol was not a factor in his passing.

A court spokesman said, “Stephen’s death had nothing to do with any alcohol he drank that night and it has nothing to do with drugs.

“I’m not saying Stephen didn’t vomit but I can categorically state he did not choke on it.”

Pro wrestler Captain Lou Alban0- born Louis Vincent Albano- died this morning at the age of 76.

If you’re not a wrestling fan, you may remember Captain Lou Albano from Cyndi Lauper’s videos in the 1980s, including the huge hit “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.” Albano also played Lauper’s father in a Goonies tie in video, “Time after Time,” and “She Bop.” He was well-known outside the world of professional wrestling and frequently crossed over to work on TV and in films.

Albano had apparently been ill for some time, and was placed under hospice care earlier this week after being released from the hospital. No cause of death has been disclosed.

Jesse Metcalfe has joked Eva Longoria Parker’s husband is jealous of him.

The ‘Desperate Housewives’ actor has filmed some raunchy new scenes with Eva for the US TV series, and laughingly claims basketball star Tony Parker is unhappy seeing his wife with someone else.

Jesse said, “He made a couple of comments early on that maybe he thought I as competition. The reality is, I am!”

The 30-year-old star – who shot to fame playing teenager John Rowland, who had a steamy affair with Eva’s character Gabrielle Solis in the first series of the show – admits he still finds Eva attractive.

He added to the New York Daily News newspaper, “Eva is a hot lady. I don’t know Tony that well, we’ve only hung out a few times, but he doesn’t intimidate me.”

Eva, 34, has previously insisted she is very different to her alter-ego, adding she hates wearing some of her character’s revealing clothes.

She said, “I’m always saying, ‘Isn’t that a bit much?’ to some of the lingerie. So I try on a lot of lingerie and I veto a lot.

“I have said no to some very cheeky showing underwear. I do not like to do that. And I’ve said no to different bras that do different things.”
