Every time you turn around some movie exec or entertainment lobbyist is proclaiming how all the talk of free and evil people downloading illegal copies of movies is killing the movie business.

Yet it seems that just as quickly we hear stats after stats about how the current year has been one of the best. Blockbuster after blockbuster rolls through towns and cities making millions upon millions of dollars.

It turns out that 2009 is shaping up to be a year that will be breaking box office records that were set back in 2006. In a public relations release Sony Pictures announced that they have already passed the $1.634 billion mark.

The year has been driven by the success of a number of breakthrough hits in the international marketplace. The studio’s most recent blockbuster is 2012, from director Roland Emmerich, which opened this past weekend to more than $165 million internationally ($230.4 million worldwide) and has yet to open in such markets as Japan, where it is expected to perform solidly.

Also contributing to the overseas record is Columbia Pictures’ Angels & Demons, which opened in May and has taken in over $352 million in foreign markets. Sony Pictures Releasing International distributed Terminator Salvation in many overseas countries, taking in $220.6 million in SPRI’s territories. District 9 proved popular around the world, too, taking in $88 million overseas, including $67.7 million from SPRI territories. Columbia’s The Ugly Truth, a modestly budgeted comedy, took in more than $112 million from international audiences (and still going). Finally, Michael Jackson fans around the world have driven Michael Jackson’s THIS IS IT to $155.2 million internationally so far and more than $222 million worldwide.

Talk about talking out of both sides of your mouth. On one hand we have the business being destroyed by evil downloaders but on the other they are making more money than in the history of the business.

New York, NY (CNS) – Demi Moore’s hip has just been chunked off. The 47-year-old slender star’s latest magazine cover photo has gotten the attention of observant readers after it appears a photo editor exaggeratedly airbrushed her picture.

At first glance, Mrs. Ashton Kutcher looks dazzling wearing a Balmain leotard on her W magazine cover photo. However, for the eagle-eyed readers, a chunk of her curvaceous hips is noticeably missing.

Although consumers are now used to a little airbrushing and touch ups on pictures, Moore’s photo appears to have been sabotaged by an overly enthusiastic Photoshop editor.

A section of her left thigh that is close to her hip appears to have been missing.

A spokesperson for the magazine told Jezebel.com that photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot “did not do anything unusual or out of the ordinary” on the actress for the shoot.

Oprah will announced on air Friday that she will be leaving her daytime talk show in September 2011 after 25 years on the air.

The show, which turned Oprah from a Chicago small time host to an international superstar, has seen a variety of stars appear on it over the years, while at the same time offering up a veritable freak show of guests, sort of Jerry Springer but more up market.

A spokesman for Oprah’s production company Harpo declined to say whether Oprah would be retiring completely, or appearing on air in new show. Speculation this year has suggested that she might appear on the Oprah network.

To many online, Oprah will be most fondly remembered for the lulz she provided after being trolled by claims that over 9000 penises were targeting children in the United States. “Over 9000″ is an old meme that is commonly used for trolling. Here’s that classic moment again:

A so-called Carmen Electra leaked video that at least according to some sites shows Electra in some girl on girl action is nothing more than a fairly disappointing publicity stunt.

The video shows Electra making out with another woman, and unzipping the pants of a cameraman…but that’s it. No nudity, no actual sex, and a controlled leak to gain publicity.

Electra’s career hasn’t exactly been stellar of late, with her only acting roles tending to be in cheap spoof movies where she always plays the role of the sex-bunny type character.

We’d never embed a sex tape on this site, but the Carmen Electra Leaked Video is so not porn that it even appears on Youtube. The video as follows:

20-year-old Korean model Daul Kim was found dead in a Parisian apartment, New York Magazine is reporting.

Kim’s death was confirmed by her agency, Next, who said in a statement:

“She was a top model and a great friend to all of us at Next. Please respect her family’s privacy at this time of sadness. We will all miss her very much.”

Cause of death was not disclosed, but New York Magazine cites a source claiming the death was a suicide. Daul made her modeling debut in the Fall 2007 shows, and she appeared in Zoo, British Vogue and an ad campaign for Topshop. Kim maintained a blog entitled “I Like To Fork Myself,” and added a final post on 11/18, “say hi to forever.”

Will Ferrell has topped a list of the Most Overpaid Stars.

The ‘Elf’ actor and comedian topped the annual list by Forbes magazine, which calculated how much movie makers earn per dollar paid to their lead actor.

After the last couple of funnyman Will’s films – ‘Semi-Pro’ and ‘Land of the Lost’ – bombed at the box office, his rate of return has dropped to $3.29 for every dollar of Will’s fee.

This contrasts greatly with the other end of the scale, which saw Shia LaBeouf named as the Best Actor for the Buck in August, earning studios an average of $160 for every dollar he was paid.

Behind Will on the Most Overpaid list was British actor Ewan McGregor, while Tom Cruise, Leonardo DiCaprio and Samuel L. Jackson all made the top ten.

However, Will could turn his box office figures around as he recently revealed he wants to make a sequel to ‘Anchorman’, one of his most successful films to date, about a 1970s newsreader.

The 42-year-old star said: “Yeah we’re trying to figure out when and how we should do that. We’re going to meet with all the guys and see if we can actually pull this off.

“With Steve Carrell and Paul Rudd, they’re in different places with their careers it’s a lot harder to get us all together.”

Although he did add: “And believe me, I’m not taking a pay cut, no way, absolutely not!”

Mariah Carey request to have 20 white kittens at a Christmas lights switch-on has been blocked.

The diva reportedly wanted the young felines and 100 white doves to accompany her at the extravagant switch-on ceremony at Westfield shopping centre, in west London.

She also requested to be showered with butterfly-shaped confetti, her favorite insect, while standing on a pink podium and waving a magic wand.

The American singer will arrive in a Rolls-Royce car and be accompanied by 80 security guards as well as her 15-strong entourage.

But while most of her demands have been met, health and safety officials refused her request to have kittens and doves, because animals are not allowed inside the complex.

A source told Britain’s Daily Mail newspaper, “We did manage to source the doves that we were going to release into the sky, but the kittens proved terribly difficult.

“In the end, it was made clear that due to health and safety, there was no way we could have the animals at Westfield. Pets are not allowed in Westfield, that rule would apply for everyone.

“We have worked extremely hard to make sure that Mariah’s event is fantastic. Even the model of car had to be changed six times to one that her people liked.”

The ‘Hero’ singer, who is appearing on UK TV talent show ‘The X Factor’ this weekend, recently admitted she loves being a diva, but doesn’t think she is demanding enough.

She said, “You know what? I guess I am a diva in many ways! When it comes to certain things, yes, I can be difficult and a little bit rigid about what I want.

“Am I demanding? I don’t think I’m demanding enough.”

MySpace celebrity Tila Tequila stripped off on Ustream early this morning and essentially went crazy, but unfortunately, the clip has since been yanked.

We expect it to re-surface at one point or another, but the basic gist was witnessed and recorded by many viewers. Perez Hilton transcribed one portion of the crazy, which we understand is actually only the tip of a crazy iceberg. Tila said:

“I am an angel … because I am here to save the world with my army,” said Tila. “People call me an attention whore .. or whatever … but excuse me I’m a grown ass woman and I’m confident in myself …I think a woman’s body is a beautiful thing … that’s why I’m a lesbian … I was born naked … anybody who is against that is gay and in denial.”

The ranting reportedly occurred for hours, covering everything from the cleanliness of her hoo-ha (Perez reports that at one point she removes a tampon on cam) to the alleged incident of domestic violence over which Tila is suing San Diego Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman for $1.5m.

36-year-old Alexandra Kerry was arrested in Hollywood early today on suspicion of driving under the influence.

You may remember Kerry, daughter of Senator John Kerry, for her sheer dress on the red carpet at Cannes in 2004. She was pulled over for a routine traffic stop in Hollywood at 12:40 am and failed a sobriety test:

“Officers detected signs and symptoms of being under the influence of alcohol,” said Officer Bruce Borihanh of LAPD.

Kerry was booked at the Hollywood police station and held until 5:30 am when she posted $5,000 in bail. Borihanh did not immediately release other details, such as blood alcohol content. However, TMZ is reporting that Kerry’s BAC was 0.6, under the legal limit of 0.8. While that minor level of intoxication can be prosecuted should the driver be operating the vehicle erratically, TMZ also indicates that the charges against Alexandra Kerry are likely to be dropped.

In addition to her work on Sen. Kerry’s failed presidential bid in 2004, Alexandra Kerry is a film producer and director.

Police were called to break-up an argument between Paris Hilton and her boyfriend.

Officers were called to the socialite’s Los Angeles home after neighbors allegedly saw her and Doug Reinhart “shoving each other” and screaming loudly.

According to gossip website TMZ, Doug went to get into his car, prompting Paris to scream, “Don’t go, don’t go”, before they started rowing, eventually going back inside the property.

Police responded after being alerted to “drunk people arguing” and spoke to the 28-year-old heiress before leaving.

Despite the reports, Paris insists her neighbor was mistaken and she and Doug, 24, were not involved in the altercation.

She said, “Doug and I were in bed, sound asleep, when Doug’s house guests from hell got into an argument. We had nothing to do with it. Doug told the LAPD that his guests’ fight was over and that we had nothing to do with it.”
