Stars Mourn Brittany Murphy’s Death

Hollywood celebrities have taken to Twitter to mourn the untimely death of actress Brittany Murphy

Ashton Kutcher, Murphy’s ex and co-star in Just Married said “Today the world lost a little piece of sunshine. My deepest condolences go out 2 Brittany’s family, her husband, & her amazing mother Sharon.”

Lindsay Lohan, who some have compared to Murphy based on both having issues later in their careers, wrote: “My deepest condolences go out to all of Brittany Murphy’s loved ones and may she rest in peace. … She was a great talent w/a beautiful soul xo.”

Khloe Kardashian, who probably never met her but just wanted in on the story, wrote “This is horrible news when anyone passes. I’m so sorry for her family. Send prayers out, please!”

Another fallen idol Jessica Simpson wrote “Brittany Murphy was an incredible ray of light to so many people. Her smile was contagious. My prayers are with her family and loved ones.”

Alyssa Milano added to a recurring theme: everyone seemed to like Brittany: “Brittany Murphy and I did a USO Tour together in 2003. She was a sweet soul, with a lot of talent and heart.”

Eliza Dushku added “My heart aches having just learned of Brittany Murphy’s death. We were friends time-to-time thru the yrs. I always admired her pure spirit.”

Rage Against the Machine topple X Factor after Facebook campaign

For the past four years here in the UK, the top of the music singles chart has assumed a predictable shape, with the annual winner of Simon Cowell’s X Factor TV show grabbing the coveted Christmas #1 spot in the charts in 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008.

The X Factor hegemony inspired husband and wife Jon and Tracy Morley to start up this Facebook group, urging UK consumers to purchase “Killing in the Name,” Rage Against the Machine’s swear-filled 1992 anti-authority anthem. As Jon writes on the group’s page:

“Fed up with Simon Cowell’s latest karaoke act being Christmas No.1? Me too… So who’s up for a mass-purchase of the track ‘KILLING IN THE NAME’ from December 13th as a protest to the X-Factor monotony?”

The aim? To beat the latest X Factor poppet – in this case 18-year-old Joe McElderry, who sung a cover of Miley Cyrus’s “The Climb” for his debut single – to top spot this Xmas.

Rage Against the Machine weren’t short of support, with Paul McCartney and even former X Factor winner Steve Brookstein publicly backing the campaign. RATM themselves also joined in the fun, announcing their support for a campaign that high-waisted X Factor creator Simon Cowell dismissively labelled as “cynical and stupid.

Well, cynical or not, “Killing in the Name” was declared 2009’s Christmas chart-topper in Britain earlier this evening, a result that delighted RATM frontman Zack De La Rocha:

“We are very, very ecstatic about being number one. It says more about the spontaneous action taken by young people throughout the UK to topple this very sterile pop monopoly.”

Although cynics might point out that Joe and RATM (who will donate their slice of the profits to charity) share the same record label, I find this subversive grassroots campaign with its origins as a Facebook group rather heartening. Plus, it’s pretty funny. Here’s the winning song:

Brittany Murphy’s Husband Tries To Block Autopsy, What’s He Hiding?

The husband of late actress Brittany Murphy, who tragically died at the age of 32 in Los Angeles this morning, is reported to have tried to block an autopsy into Murphy’s death.

According to gossip blog TMZ, Simon Monjack told hospital staff at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center he did not want an autopsy performed on his deceased wife.

The same report notes that given her suspicious death, the L.A. Country Coroner will perform an autopsy anyway, and that Monjack won’t be able to block it.

While for religious reasons some people might oppose the autopsy process, it’s believed that Monjack isn’t religious, which begs the question: why doesn’t he want an autopsy, and is he trying to hide something?

Brittany Murphy May Have Committed Suicide

The tragic death of Brittany Murphy at the age of 32 may have been due to suicide, new reports are claiming.

As we reported earlier Murphy was found after a suspected cardiac arrest, however 32 year olds don’t usually keel over and die from a cardiac arrest unless there is a genetic disorder, or something else at play.

Reports of Murphy taking drugs have been circulating widely this year, and a drug overdose is a suspected cause of death. There was also news that she was fired from her latest movie two weeks; a blow that coincided with her husband being hospitalized Both may have driven her into depression, and subsequently drove her to commit suicide.

The LA Coroner will be performing an autopsy on Murphy this week to confirm the cause of the death.

Brittany Murphy: “a dangerous downward spiral” may have led to her death

Word is starting to come out now about the last month or so of Brittany Murphy’s life and it doesn’t sound pretty. According to Sharon Waxman at The Wrap blog Brittany had been fired two weeks ago from her recent movie The Caller. No reasons were given for the firing but an insider of another film she was working on, Something Wicked, said that Murphy was barely able to shoot her scenes and would lose her focus in mid-sentence during a take.

“Her husband was her handler, he shuttled her around. She was barely there,” said an individual with knowledge of the production, referring to Murphy’s husband and manager, Simon Monjack.

“She’d go in and out of consciousness in the middle of takes.”

The individual said Murphy’s inability to stay fully conscious caused producers to rewrite her character, a therapist to the two main characters, and her scenes. He said colleagues on the set had presumed she used prescription drugs.

Murphy’s suspected excessive use of drugs has been widely speculated and led to a spoof on a recent Saturday Night Live Weekend Update.

Brittany Murphy Death Confirmed By L.A. Coroner

The tragic death of actress Brittany Murphy has been confirmed by the Los Angeles County Coroner.

As we reported earlier, the Brittany Murphy dead news was broken by TMZ, although until now was unconfirmed by an independent party.

Reports suggest that Murphy may have had a problem with cocaine, and also note that her husband was hospitalized in November, although on what grounds was never disclosed.
