Norah Jones ‘Personal’ Album

Norah Jones says turning 30 helped her record a “more personal” album.

The ‘Don’t Know Why’ singer believes reaching the milestone in March forced her to reassess her life and had a change in her creative approach to making ‘The Fall’, which has sold over half a million copies since being released last month.

She said, “It seems to be an age where everyone goes through changes. All my good friends have. Everyone’s either breaking up or getting involved or married or having a baby.

“So when I made that album I think I was looking outside myself more at that time, because of where I was and what was going on in the world. The past couple of years, though, I’ve looked inward more.”

Norah, who split from long-time boyfriend Lee Alexander earlier in the year, also says she feels no pressure to recreate the huge success she had in her 20s.

She added to the USA Today newspaper, “I don’t feel like I have anything to prove now. My label actually was excited about me trying something new. I have a lot of support and a lot of freedom. It’s a good place to be in.”

Brittany Murphy’s Tribute Given By Paul Oakenfold

Brittany Murphy was worried people wouldn’t take her seriously as a singer.

The actress, who died at the age of 32 on December 20 following a cardiac arrest, provided the vocals for DJ Paul Oakenfold’s 2006 dance track ‘Faster Kill Pussycat’ but wasn’t keen to be credited on the song.

Paul revealed, “I said to her, ‘Why hide behind something? You have a really great vocal. People are going to be shocked and pleasantly happy with what they’re going to hear. You are not one of these actresses who are trying to sing and not doing a good job of it.’

“I demoed three other girls on that song, and some of the girls were pretty big singers, and Brittany blew them away.”

The Grammy-nominated artist also revealed Brittany was in the process of recording her own album and says it’s the world’s loss they won’t ever be able to hear it.

He told People magazine, “She would have done well. She wanted to try this with me, this smoky blues sound with electronic rhythms. She wanted to sound more traditional originally but I told her we should go more edgy. She was really excited by that and it’s just a shame it never got as far as people thought it could. It’s just a shame that the world is not going to hear more songs of Brittany Murphy.”

Brittany was laid to rest on Christmas Eve, December 24, at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park, in Hollywood.

Her husband Simon Monjack gave a eulogy in which he described her as his “soul mate” and the service was overseen by a Christian minister and a rabbi and included the hymn ‘Amazing Grace’.

After the private ceremony, her family released a statement which read: “Brittany was an incredibly loving and passionate person and an artist to her core – she loved acting, singing, dancing and performing.

“A bright light that lit the world is forever dimmed, but will live on in the hearts of those that Brittany touched.”

Jude Law Heading for ‘Disaster’

Jude Law’s parents think his renewed romance with Sienna Miller is a “recipe for disaster”.

The ‘Sherlock Holmes’ star has angered his family by reuniting with ‘Factory Girl’ actress Sienna, whom he was engaged to in 2005, and taking her for a festive break to the Caribbean island of Barbados.

Jude usually spends the festive period with ex-wife Sadie Frost and their three children Rafferty, 13, Iris, nine, and Rudy, seven.

Butt his year he has taken the kids with him and Sienna on their tropical holiday.

A source told The Sun newspaper, “They have made it abundantly clear he doesn’t have their blessing. They want him to be happy but think the two of them together is a recipe for disaster.

“They believe the relationship was a rollercoaster the last time and they were left to pick up the pieces when it finished.”

Jude originally met Sienna on the set of 2004 film ‘Alfie’ and they got engaged in 2005. She broke off the wedding plans later that year after it emerged he’d cheated on her with his children’s nanny. They finally split in 2006.

Sienna, who is 28 today, sparked rumours she was dating Jude again after they were spotted together on several occasions in New York, where they were both appearing in plays.

Jude, 37 tomorrow, became a father for the fourth time in September when model Samantha Burke gave birth to daughter Sophia. The couple had a brief romance after meeting in a nightclub in December 2008.

Rihanna Asked to Cover Up for Abu Dhabi Concert

Rihanna has been told to cover up for her concert in Abu Dhabi on New Year’s Eve, December 31.

The 21-year-old singer is famous for her raunchy stage shows and flesh-flashing outfits but must dress “conservatively” for the performance at the Emirates Palace for which she is being paid $500,000.

A source said told the Daily Mirror newspaper, “Rihanna is tearing her hair out over what to do – she wanted to put on her most eccentric and provocative show yet. A huge part of her show is her sexy stage gear. But the dress code in Abu Dhabi does not encourage excessively revealing outfits. The organisers are getting hot under the collar about possible wardrobe choices.”

Rihanna and her team are now busy devising a new show complete with modest outfits which don’t show off too much of her body and won’t offend residents in the city in the United Arab Emirates, which is predominantly a Muslim country.

The ‘Russian Roulette’ singer is not the only pop star to be told to tone down their stage show.

Earlier this year, Beyonce Knowles was told she wouldn’t be able to wear any “bootylicious” outfits for her proposed concert in Malaysia in October, which was eventually cancelled.

In August 2007, Gwen Stefani was also told to cover up for her show in Malaysia.

The ‘Wind It Up’ singer wore “sober” outfits but called it a “major sacrifice.” She put jackets over her tops and leotards underneath her skirts and dresses, to conform to the guidelines for the concert.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Donate $100,000 For Orphans

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie donated $100,000 to two US foster care homes.

The Hollywood couple, who raise six children together, gave the American SOS Villages in Florida and Illinois the Christmas present after being impressed by the work they do.

Angelina said of the generous gift, “We have seen firsthand the remarkable job SOS does to raise orphaned and abandoned children and keep families together. No one ‘ages out’ of an SOS Village: vocational training, advanced education, living assistance and moral support are there forever.”

The SOS Villages house over 200 disadvantaged children and Brad said it was important to show gratitude for the work they do.

He said, “In this holiday season, many of us take for granted that we are surrounded by loving family members. The poor outcomes for foster children indicate that we must do a much better job of supporting them.”

It was recently revealed Brad and Angelina donated $6.8 million to charity last year after raising the money through their Jolie-Pitt Foundation.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, which received a copy of the 2008 tax return for the charity, the Jolie-Pitt Foundation banked $13 million in 2008 and over half was given back to good causes.

Charlie Sheen Threatened Brooke Miller With a Knife

Charlie Sheen allegedly threatened wife Brooke Mueller with a knife.

The ‘Two and a Half Men’ actor was arrested on Christmas Day, December 12, following an argument with the mother of his twin sons and sources claim he pulled a weapon out on her during the row at a rented home in Aspen, Colorado.

Although Pitkin County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Stephanie Dasaro did not provide details on what kind of weapon Sheen is accused of using, it is thought to be a knife.

Sheen, 44, was arrested on investigation of second-degree assault, a felony charge, and criminal mischief, a misdemeanour charge, and spent much of his sons Bob and Max’s first Christmas behind bars.

He was later released on an $8,500 bail and while he was not charged, a court date has been set for February 8, 2010.

Despite the domestic violence claims, Sheen and Mueller – who married in May 2008 – have no plans to divorce.

Sheen’s manager, Mark Burg, said, “I have spoken to all parties concerned. There are no plans for divorce. They are both deeply upset about what happened and are trying to work things out amicably.

“They both want to get away from all the sensationalism surrounding what happened and quietly resolve things.”

Sheen was previously married to actress Denise Richards, with who he has two young daughters, Sam and Lola, with as well as a 25-year-old daughter Cassandra from a previous relationship.
