At around 9pm local time, Michael Phelps was involved in a car crash in his home town of Baltimore, MD.

Sources told PerezHilton.com that Phelps was speeding, ran a red light and smashed his Cadillac Escalade into a Honda Accord which then hit a parked car. Phelps didn’t appear to be injured in the crash and was seen talking to police near the scene of the accident. One woman has been taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Of course, when a car wreck happens, especially in a city, people gather around to rubberneck and when the onlookers realized who it was, they started snapping photos with their cellphones. That’s when Phelps started getting irate and began yelling at the photogs to delete the photos.

Olympic Gold Medallist Michael Phelps, a swimmer, has been in the news before after scandalous photos of him appeared online smoking from a bong. No word yet on whether Phelps was impared at the time of the car wreck.

Oprah Winfrey and her long time beau, Stedman Graham, may be calling it quits soon. In fact, The National Enquirer is reporting that Sted has already moved out and into his new bachelor pad!

Aparently, Stedman is sick of being treated like a second class citizen and being disrespected by Winfrey so he finally said “enough is enough” and moved out while Oprah was on an extended vacation with her pal, Gayle King. Why wasn’t Sted with her on vacation?

When you think back, how many times has Oprah included Stedman in any of her activities? When is the last time you remember her talking about her man like she used to years ago?

Our guess is that this has been going on for years but Sted finally got up the gumption to pack his stuff and leave. Straw that broke the camel’s back maybe?

Name any trade group that claims to represent songwriters and/or musicians and they well all tell you how they are all about making sure that the musicians are getting their fair share of money earned by their music. It’s a nice fallacy which I am sure helps record executives and trade group thugs sleep easy at night  but the truth of the matter is that money collected on their behalf very rarely makes it to them.

Lately a lot of noise has been made of a music service called Spotify and how it will let people listen to music for free as long as they don’t mind advertising mixed it; or they could pay for the service and not have to put up with the ads. The publicity around the service was that this was a legitimate that would make sure that the artist got their fair share unlike the thieves running sites like Pirate Bay.

The thing is this isn’t the case, or at least as far as Swedish artist and composer Magnus Uggla it isn’t. When he first came across Spotify he thought is was great, a free service that offers just about everything and because of the involvement of all the music labels – including his own, Sony BMG, there was a feeling that finally artists would start seeing reasonable payments for their music.

Experience has proved otherwise as Magnus says that his first earnings statement from Spotify made it quite apparent that a Busker (street musician) could earn more in one day than what Spotify and his label wanted to pay him for six months.

… Uggla was as surprised as most people when he learned last week that the major labels, including Sony, all have a stake in Spotify. A mere 30,000 kroner ($4,000) investment bought the company 5.8% of the service now valued at around 1.8 billion kroner ($251m).

Referring to the valuation, Uggla questions how this company can do so well – and comes to the conclusion that it’s at the artist’s expense. He says that Sony Music, after “suing the shit out of The Pirate Bay” is acting just like them by not paying the artists.

“I would rather be raped by Pirate Bay than by Hasse Breitholtz and Sony Music and will remove all of my songs from Spotify pending an honest service,” he says.

The Internet might be a hard place for musicians to earn a living but at some point it has to be better than signing everything over to record companies who do nothing more than pimp out musicians and then pocket most of the money.

Pivotal guitar legend Les Paul died at a hospital in White Plains, NY today. He was 94.

Paul and second wife Mary Ford (who died in 1977) had a string of hits in the 40s and 50s, including “How High the Moon,” “The Tennessee Waltz,” “Vaya con Dios” and “The World is Waiting for the Sunrise.” Paul designed guitars and promoted many for Gibson, with Eric Clapton, Wes Montgomery and Pete Townshend among famous users of the Les Paul line of guitars. Paul built solid body guitars, free of the sound distortions common in acoustic versions.

The Washington Post quoted Paul on why the he reinvented the guitar.

“I wanted people to hear me,” he told the publication Guitar Player in 2002. “That’s where the whole idea of a solid-body guitar came from. In the ’30s, the archtop electric was such an apologetic instrument. On the bandstand, it was so difficult battling with a drummer, the horns, and all the instruments that had so much power.

“With a solid-body, guitarists could get louder and express themselves,” he said. “Instead of being wimps, we’d become one of the most powerful people in the band. We could turn that mother up and do what we couldn’t do before.”

Paul is survived by a companion, Arlene Palmer, and four children.

Jenny McCarthy hit “rock bottom” when seven-year-old Evan, who suffers from autism, was given medication which kept him awake for four days. He suffered hallucinations and would bang his head against a bed until he bled.

Jenny was so devastated by what was happening to her beloved boy, she thought it would be best if he died so he wouldn’t be in anymore pain.

She told Cookie magazine: “I ran out of my house and into my driveway and screamed at the top of my lungs to God to just take him away, because I loved him so much and he was in so much pain.”

However, Evan’s condition dramatically improved after Jenny switched her son to a gluten-free, casein-free diet and he is happier than ever now.

She said: “I have him in every sport you can imagine for socialization, but he is already one of the most social kids you will ever meet.”

Quentin Tarantino is planning to adapt three spy thriller novels by British writer Len Deighton into a movie series which will attract fans of the British secret agent’s on screen adventures.

Tarantino explained: “One of the things I enjoy musing about doing is the trilogy of Len Deighton books, ‘Berlin Game’, ‘Mexico Set’, and ‘London Match’.

“The story takes place in the Cold War and follows a spy named Bernard Sampson. What is attractive is the really great characters and the wonderful casting.”

The ‘Inglourious Basterds’ filmmaker also revealed he has a list of British actors he’d love to work with, including ‘How To Lose Friends and Alienate People’ star Simon Pegg, and is keen to shoot a film in the UK in the near future.

Tarantino, 46, added in an interview with Britain’s The Sun newspaper: “I am a huge fan of Simon Pegg. I also think Kate Winslet is the best actresses that ever lived, so I would be honoured to work with her.

“I am also a huge admirer of Anthony Hopkins. I would also love to work with Michael Caine. I can see them appearing in my movies.”

‘House Bunny’ actress Anna Faris tied the knot with her actor fiance Chris Pratt in a low-key ceremony in Bali on July 9.

Anna’s representative confirmed: “Anna Faris and Chris Pratt were married in a small ceremony in Bali.”

The pair, who got engaged last year, sparked speculation they had wed after Chris was seen sporting a gold band on his ring finger on Tuesday (11 August).
