Will Smith and wife Jada Pinkett Smith have axed Jacqueline Olivier from her $200,000-a-year position at The New Village Leadership Academy after reportedly clashing over the school’s curriculum, which is based on the teachings of the bizarre sci-fi cult’s founder Ron L. Hubbard.
A source told website RadarOnline: “Jada phoned Jaqueline and told her that they had ‘decided to go in another direction’ with the school. As head of the campus her position was becoming untenable as she did not agree with Study Tech and felt uncomfortable with it.”
It is understood Jacqueline – who “thrashed-out” a compensation package with the couple – has signed a confidentiality agreement about her time at the school.
The couple – who have both denied they are followers of the controversial faith - have now hired Piano Foster as they feel she is more suited to the role.
The source added: “They have appointed somebody else who is more ‘in-line’ with their thinking as to how the school should be run.”
Foster said of her new job: “I officially took over on July 1, 2009, and I’m looking forward to the challenge. I’ve been working in education for the past 20 years at various public and charter schools so I feel I’m ready for the job.”
The school opened last September but was met by several demonstrators who protested outside the main gates it was a front for Scientology teachings.
However, the couple – whose children attend the school – have always insisted the facility had no religious affiliation.
They claim the curriculum uses different educational theories, one of which is “Study Technology” - a learning method developed Hubbard.
Aerosmith front man, Steven Tyler fell off the stage while performing live at the historic Sturgis Motorcycle Rally Wednesday night. He was airlifted to an area hospital with injuries to his face, neck and shoulder.
After technical problems with the sound system at the event, Steven Tyler, an avid motorcycle fan, tried to get the crowd back into the spirit of things by dancing wildly around the stage while he and his band Aerosmith performed their classic ‘Love in an elevator’. He was on an extension of the stage called the catwalk when he fell backwards into the crowd.
Reports from local media nad fans say that Tyler’s injuries were not serious and that the hospital trip was precautionary, but at 61, Tyler isn’t as young as he used to be.
Below is the video of Steven Tyler falling off the stage at the Sturgis, SD motorcycle rally.
John Hughes, director of movies like National Lampoon’s Vacation, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and Weird Science, passed away earlier today at the age of 59.
Hughes died suddenly of a heart attack while taking a morning walk in Manhattan, New York.
John Hughes was most famous for directing comedy movies depicting teenagers lives. Some of those movies included (as well as those mentioned above) The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink, Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Uncle Buck, Home Alone and its sequel Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. One of the biggest draws for his movies was the music used as the soundtracks. Some viewers even say that the music defined the soundtrack of teenage life at the times the movies were popular.
In an effort to expand away from his earlier comedic work depicting teens and rock music soundtracks, Hughes branched out in 1987, directing Planes, Trains & Automobiles starring Steve Martin and John Candy. His later movies were not so critically acclaimed, but films like Uncle Buck (one of the first films to display the change in teenager’s choice of music from rock to rap) turned out to be very popular.
Hughes biggest success was the ‘Home Alone’ series consisting of Home Alone and its sequel Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.
Kim Kardashian had 1,830,701 followers on her Twitter account as of about 3:30pm Eastern today and she has no problem with letting them all know some of the more intimate details of what’s going on in her life. Twitter is great for that - showing fans and followers that celebs are just like us and with our voyeuristic nature as humans, we crave it.
But there comes a point when the tweets can get a little too personal and give up too much information (TMI). Kim Kardashian may have went and done that today, with this tweet:
Now we all know that women go through their monthly ups and downs and of course we understand. We’re all human. But does the world REALLY need to know when Kim Kardashian is about to get her monthly ‘visitor’?
Now, I haven’t seen the movie yet, but will this weekend, so maybe my opinion will change. But, as one of the previously linked articles mentions, there’s a trend for critics to dismiss, almost out of hand, any action movie that’s based on nerd-favorite material – both Transformers movies stand as perfect examples. This is not to say that the movie will be the second coming of the original Matrix, but that it’s probably significantly better than many would like to admit.
Admittedly, the movie studio refused an early release to critics, which is typically not a good sign, but they did it for potentially legitimate reasons: all critics panned TF2, and if the movie didn’t have such a strong fanbase, it would have flopped. And while the G.I. Joe fanbase is potentially huge, it’s untested and therefore better to err on the side of caution – especially if it’s the type of movie critics love to call “fluff”, “nonsense”, and “lacking intelligence”, all of which are probable.
Assuming that G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is better than the recent Streetfighter movie, it will be a happy day for millions of twenty- and thirtysomething males worldwide. Why? Because we’re the generation that grew up on “The Real American Hero”, both on TV and during playtime – the cartoon (and its famous PSAs) was a wonderful way to spend a half-hour watching things blow up with an ethical message attached, and the action figures were a perfect answer to the Barbie conundrum. So for a movie to be released to Generation Y, during a time that’s very bleak for the same population subset, the excitement should be tangible.
Just like TF2, moviegoers will not attend The Rise of Cobra expecting a thoughtful art film, a “chick flick”, or a snarky comedy starring Paul Giamatti – they will willingly pay $10 to see a movie full of explosions and semi-futuristic battles that captures the spirit of the original cartoon and combines with their playful imaginings as children. And, barring cataclysmic failures that aren’t apparent in the “it looks really awesome and epic” trailer, they will love it.
Even if the millions of people that flock to see the movie don’t love it, Paramount will probably make enough money to consider a sequel as a direct result of Millennial curiosity. While Marlon Wayans and Dennis Quaid are not actors I would have cast in a manly man’s-man movie about fighting evil, shrouded badguys, the updated and modern battle-ready G.I. Joe will remain forever my hero.
Unless the movie is completely and unabashedly horrible – then it will have ruined my childhood.
Guest post from Kyle Brady - a student, entrepreneur, and writer living in California who’d like an OpEd column somewhere. Until then, he can be found at his blog.
Katy Perry - who is in an on-off relationship with Gym Class Heroes rapper Travis McCoy - would never date a guy who doesn’t keep his mouth clean.
She wrote on her Twitter page: “I mean, ladies, how many times did u think that guy was hot but just couldn’t deal w/ his breathe? Sense of smell is most important! Agree?
“Some1 next to me has a bad case of halitosis and won’t stop talking. I can’t breathe. Don’t know him but wonder if anyone’s eva told him? R u the type of friend that wouldn’t tell ur friend if they had something stuck in their teeth? What bout bad breath? Wouldn’t u wanna know (sic)?”
Meanwhile, Katy has revealed she wants to be as big a star as Gwen Stefani. The 24-year-old brunette has nothing but admiration for Gwen, 39, because she has had so many years of success in the music business, firstly with her recently reformed band No Doubt.
In a posting on Twitter, she wrote: “When I grow up I want to be just like Gwen Stefani. It’s not a race it’s a marathon. I keep telling myself this. Think of the big picture. Well the music industry doesn’t let u grow anymore. Everything has 2B now, so immediate. Like Gwen - that is 15 years in the making. I can’t wait to make magic like that in 15 yrs, I just don’t know if people will wait for people to grow like they used too.
“Music is not fast food. It should change and grow and not be such competition of who’s on top or not. We all want our musicians to b of Beyonce/Madonna level from the get go when we forget those amazing girls have been doing it for 15-25 years (sic).”
