Valencia, Spain (CNS) – Canadian singer/songwriter Leonard Cohen has been rushed to the hospital after collapsing on stage during a concert in Valencia, Spain on Friday. He has been released and is said to have been recuperating for his next gig on Monday.

The singer, who turns 75 Monday, was performing “Bird on the Wire’ about half an hour into the show when he fainted. After kneeling several times through the song, he fell over during a saxophone solo, according to witnesses.

His band immediately stopped playing and rushed to help him.

Cohen was treated by the stadium’s medical staff before he was taken by ambulance to Nueve de Octubre hospital. He was discharged in the early hours of Saturday.

A band member told the shocked crowd that the singer suffered stomach complaint.

Cohen is said to be well enough for his Barcelona concert this Monday.

Coldplay have donated £1 million [$1.6 million] to a children’s charity. The British rockers – Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Will Champion and Guy Berryman – are keen supporters of Kids Company, which helps underprivileged children who lack adult support, and have generously given the cash to help the organization achieve its goals.

Founder Camila Batmanghelidjh said: “They were moved by the tough stories they heard and want to be genuine participants.”
“I got the feeling the donation was something they had planned from the start of their careers.”

The “Fix You” hitmakers have visited the charity’s various centers and also plan to give as many children as they can music lessons.
Coldplay are not the first stars to donate money to help children.

In January 2008, Johnny Depp gave $2 million to Great Ormond Street Hospital for saving his daughter’s life.

The Hollywood actor secretly visited the London children’s hospital where his daughter Lily-Rose was treated in March 2007 after her kidneys failed, to personally hand over the sum as a thank you.

In November 2007, Johnny – who was dressed as his “Pirates of the Caribbean” character Captain Jack Sparrow – spent hours at Great Ormond Street hospital reading bedtime stories to patients.

Amy Winehouse has created her own record label to launch her goddaughter’s career.

The ‘Rehab’ singer is expecting 13-year-old Dionne Bromfield to better her own successes when she releases her first album next month on Amy’s own Lioness Records.

She said, “The first time I heard Dionne sing, I couldn’t believe what I was hearing, such an amazing voice from such a young girl. She’s so much better than I was at her age. I’m just so proud of her.

“I’m very lucky to have a record label. I’ve got all these people that I love that are really talented – and Dionne is my number one.”

Amy – who sings backing vocals on Dionne’s album – has a close relationship with the teenager and thinks she can have a long and fantastic career.

She added to Britain’s The Sun newspaper, “She’s a great songwriter and guitarist but I want her to experience life so she can write more.

“Singing songs that are so personal, it’s deep. But she knows what she’s doing. To be honest, when I say Dionne’s like my sister, a lot of the time she’s like my older sister.”

Amy, 26, also revealed she has named her company in honour of her beloved grandma Cynthia, who gave her a lioness pendant before she passed away a few years ago.

She explained, “My nanny was like my best friend. She was the sweetest, strongest, most amazing person I ever met. When I was thinking of what to call the label, I picked up the necklace and knew straight away that I’d call it Lioness in honour of her.”

Zooey Deschanel, the ‘(500) Days of Summer’ actress tied the knot with Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard at a private ceremony near Seattle, Washington, on Saturday, September 19.

Only close friends – including her ‘Your Highness’ co-stars James Franco and Natalie Portman – and family were present and the couple are thought to have now flown out to their secret honeymoon location.

The couple got engaged in December 2008 after dating for nearly a year, with a friend saying at the time, “Zooey was swept off her feet, and Ben is so excited.”

It was recently revealed the actress had been taking ballet classes to slim down before the forthcoming nuptials.

A source said, “Zooey has been taking classes at Pure Barre in Los Angeles to prepare for the wedding. She has been doing workouts which are based on ballet barre work back-to-back.

“She’ll take a class, wait 15 minutes, and then take another.”

Michael Jackson’s “son”, Omer Bhatti, is to play him in a new film.

Omer, whom the late ‘King of Pop’ told friends he had fathered, will play Michael in a movie charting his rise to superstardom in the 80s.

A source told Britain’s The Sun newspaper, “Michael’s story from childhood to the height of success is nothing short of astounding.

The family feel fans would love to see a dramatic retelling. They want to cover his childhood and family life but really focus when his career went into overdrive.”

Although Norwegian Omer – who has worked as a Michael Jackson impersonator – denies Michael is his biological father; though he has revealed the singer used to tell him he was “like a son” to him.

He has also been welcomed by the Jackson family and sat in the front row at Michaels’ Los Angeles memorial service in July.

Since Michael’s death from Acute Propofol Intoxication in June, Omer has reportedly stayed at the Jacksons’ California home.

Omer, 25, first met Michael in 1996 in Tunisia whilst on a family holiday with his mother Pia and stepfather Riz. He impressed the star with his dance moves and they became “best friends”.

In 1997, the family moved into Michael’s luxury estate, where Pia is believed to have worked as a nanny and Riz a driver.

Meanwhile, Michael’s father Joe Jackson has claimed he tried to save his son from using prescription drugs shortly before his death, but was prevented by his bodyguards.

He said: “”I thought, ‘I’ll go get my gun and shoot my way to Michael.’

“I said to my wife, Katherine, ‘We must get the boy out of there or he is dead in one week.’ And one week later he was indeed dead.”

Robbie Williams is to perform with Take That next month.

The ‘Bodies’ singer has been invited to play at a special concert the group’s singer Gary Barlow is organizing in aid of charity Children in Need and plans to join his former bandmates for a one-off performance.

Robbie – who quit Take That in 1995, shortly before the rest of the group went their separate ways – said, “Yes, something is finally going to happen. Me and Gary have been hanging out a lot lately, talking things over.

“It’s been absolutely amazing. I’ve always wanted to be in a band ever since we split.”

‘Grace Kelly’ star, Mika is one of the other stars performing at the event at London’s Royal Albert Hall and he is excited about Robbie returning to Take That – and has promised some surprises of his own.

He told Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper, “It would be great. I’m a real fan of Robbie and I really like his new single ‘Bodies’.

“I’ll be performing a duet. I can’t say who with yet but there are going to be a lot of surprises.

“Gary has done a fantastic job. It’s going to be an amazing night.”

Meanwhile, Robbie has reportedly been taking his girlfriend alien hunting.

The singer – who recently moved back to England – has made several late-night trips to Cradle Hill, near Warminster, southern England, with actress Ayda Field to try and spot UFOs.

A source said, “During the summer, Robbie and Ayda went on loads of late-night excursions. Cradle Hill used to be a really famous spot in the 60s and 70s where UFO hunters would gather en masse and scan the skies for signs of alien life. It’s undergone a bit of a revival recently so Robbie has taken Ayda up there to see if they can spot anything. Ayda loves it.”

Robbie, 35, is “obsessed” with extra-terrestrials, and claims to have seen three UFOs during his lifetime.

Katherine Heigl’s husband thinks their adopted baby is “awesome”.

Musician Josh Kelley gushed about Nancy Leigh – a 10-month-old Korean girl with special needs he and Katherine adopted earlier this month – during a concert on Ohio on Friday night, September 19.

On the verge of tears, Josh shouted, “We adopted a baby from Korea, me and my girl, and she’s awesome, dude! This girl is the bomb!”

Earlier in the week, Josh sung a song he wrote about the baby – nicknamed ‘Naleigh’ – at a performance at Miami University.

It included the lines, “Just to see you in mommy’s arms is all I need.”

Katherine, 30, was “thrilled” to welcome Nancy into her home, revealing she has wanted to adopt a Korean baby since she was a child.

She said, “It’s been a big part of my life and my family. My sister is Korean and my parents adopted her back in the 70s and so I just always knew that this is something I wanted to do.

“I just wanted to make sure that I was marrying a guy who understands that this was going to have to happen. Not everybody is down with that, not everybody thinks that.”

Yoko Ono thinks the new Beatles video game will help create “a world of peace”.

Yoko Ono has praised Beatles Rock Band – which was released earlier this month – because it merges music and art to create amazing “healing vibrations”.

She explained, “I think game is the second revolution. In the beginning they made a splash with their music; with the video game we’re going to create a planet of music and art.

“Music and art are both very interesting healing vibrations, and with that vibration we can create the world we’ve always wanted, a world of peace.”

Even though Lennon has been dead for nearly 30 years, Yoko claims she is still committed to ensuring he is “treated right”.

She said, “I’m thankful that I’m in a position to look after John’s legacy, because that’s what he wanted me to do.

“We were both artists and understood exactly what it’s like when your work isn’t treated properly. I’m trying my best to make sure his is treated right.”

When it comes to her own life, the provocative musician hopes she is forgotten as soon as she dies.

She told Britain’s Observer newspaper, “What’s written about me in newspapers is usually fiction. With the press you have to learn to read between the lines.

“I don’t mind if no one remembers me. If I’m going to be remembered by the fictional notes the press wrote about me, why would I want to be remembered at all?”

Madonna spent weeks working with Michael Jackson several years ago, but never recorded a duet with him because Michael was scared of Madonna’s “provocative” music.

The 51-year-old star recalled, “We spent a chunk of time together, and became friends, but it never happened. I wrote a bunch of words and presented them to him, and he didn’t want to go there.

“He didn’t want to be provocative. And I said, ‘Well, why come to me?’ I mean, that’s like asking Quentin Tarantino to not put any violence in his films. I felt like he was too inhibited, too shy.”

Madonna paid tribute to Michael – who died in June of acute propofol intoxication – in an emotional speech at the MTV Video Music Awards earlier this month.

Even though she used the occasion to “say goodbye” to her old friend, the star admits she can’t stop thinking about Michael, and the torment he faced at the hands of the media.

She told Britain’s Times newspaper, “When I heard he had died, the first thing that came into my head was the word ‘abandoned’. I feel like we all abandoned him and put him in a box and labeled him as a strange person.

“And it used to pain me to see people go write such horrible things about him, accuse him of being a child molester, and all these things that nobody had any proof of because I’ve had plenty of things I’ve been accused of.

“When I adopted David, I was accused of kidnapping him, for God’s sakes; and it’s very hurtful, and people love to jump on bandwagons. The lynch-mob mentality is pretty scary.”
