American Idol Takes Twitter, FB Accounts From Contestants

In a classic case of control freaks gone mad, the producers of American Idol have taken control of the Twitter, Facebook and other social media accounts from contestants.

Instead of individual accounts, contestant can now only communicate through “official accounts,” including a Twitter account at @AI9Contestants.

USA Today speculates that

I’d say that they individual accounts got pulled for roughly the same reason that the show doesn’t allow iTunes to give out sales figures — the popularity of the individual accounts gives away too much about which contestants are doing better.

Is knowing which contestants are doing well really that much of a bad thing vs cutting off contact between them and their fans directly?

Mutya Buena Wants Sugarbabes Name

Former Sugababes star Mutya Buena has made a legal bid for ownership of the band’s name.

The ‘Real Girl’ singer, who quit the girl group in 2005 to pursue a solo career, has filed an ownership request to the European Trademarks Authority.

Her legal firm Kilburn and Strode has confirmed the application has been registered but is yet to be approved. They are “hopeful” it will be passed in just a few months.

If the ownership request is granted Mutya would have the rights to use the Sugababes band name to sell a variety of products, including CDs, DVDs, T-shirts and books.

Mutya founded the Sugababes with school friends Keisha Buchanan and Siobhan Donaghy in 1998.

Keisha and Siobhan are named in the legal documents which have been filed, but have not joined Mutya in applying for ownership of the group’s name.

The current line-up – Heidi Range, Amelle Berrabah and Jade Ewen – features none of the three original members after Keisha left last September to be replaced by Jade.

The current Sugababes are currently preparing to release their new album ‘Sweet 7’ – which was re-recorded so Keisha’s vocal parts could be replaced by Jade’s.

Heidi, who is the longest serving member of the pop trio after replacing Siobhan in 2001, previously claimed she and the girls would have no problem keeping the name because their record company Universal owns the rights.

She said, “Our record company owns the name so there are no conversations about who owns the name. I signed to Universal Records eight-and-a-half years ago with Mutya and Keisha, so we’ve still got the name.”

Miley Cyrus Loved Working with Boyfriend Liam Hemsworth

Miley Cyrus loved working with new boyfriend Liam Hemsworth on ‘The Last Song’.

The 17-year-old singer-and-actress, who is in a relationship with the Australian star, says it was fantastic to be able to share the movie making experience with someone you care about.

She said, “Working with Liam was a lot of fun because this is something new for both of us. It’s cool being able to share that with somebody.”

Miley is glad she took the role as rebellious teen Ronnie Miller because it was a chance to get away from the ‘Hannah Montana’ character that catapulted her to fame.

She added, “This is his breakout moment in the States and this is my breakout moment away from what people know me as.”

Discussing the movie, which sees Ronnie slowly fall in love with Liam’s character Will Blakelee, Miley said, “Ronnie and Will have two very different backgrounds.

“She’s a little more independent, doesn’t have a lot of money and he’s very wealthy, very taken care of by his parents.

“He definitely does have it a little bit easier on the surface, that’s what she thinks, but it turns out that his life has been just as crazy as Ronnie’s.”

‘The Last Song’ is released in the US on March 31.

Diane Krueger’s Authority Problem

Diane Kruger hates authority.

The ‘Inglourious Basterds’ star confessed she has come close to being arrested more than once because she gets so argumentative around people in power.

She said, “I have a real problem with authority. I’ve nearly been arrested so many times.

“Airports are the worst – you go through security, you only have one item, one tube and they tell you to put it in a plastic bag. I’m like, ‘But it’s one f***ing item! A plastic bag isn’t going to make it any more secure.’ ”

The 33-year-old German actress, who had a strict religious upbringing – believes the problem stems from her youth when she was an “angry child” who despised school.

She added to Britain’s Marie Claire magazine, “I was always arguing. Unless someone could explain and it made sense to me I just couldn’t accept things.

“I think everybody has childhood problems, issues, whatever. I was angry when I was a teenager. I just really hated school and the Catholic bit was part of that. Just the suppression and everything being so proper.”

Former model Diane struggled to find an outlet for her anger, so focused all her passions on ballet as a way of exorcising her frustrations.

She explained, “I didn’t see myself as an academic. I wasn’t happy so I loved to be able to express my anxiety or passion or whatever you feel by dancing.”

Ethan Hawke’s Work and Family Struggles

Ethan Hawke struggles to balance his work and family life.

The 39-year-old actor, who has two children, Maya, 11 and Levon, eight, with ex-wife Uma Thurman and 19-month-old Clementine with current spouse Ryan Shawhughes, admits he finds it difficult to pursue an acting career while coping with the demands of home.

He said, “Anybody who is a parent who wants to have a professional life knows that it’s a struggle… always a balance.”

However, the ‘Training Day’ actor admits his burden is made easier with the help of his oldest daughter.

He said, “Maya is about to be 12, so she’s getting pretty good with the baby.”

Earlier this week, Uma also admitted she struggles to find the balance between being a good mother to Maya and Levon and committing to work, because she worries about making them feel insecure.

She said, “I don’t want them to notice when I’m exhausted or depressed. They need a steady mother who gives them a feeling of security, otherwise they might become even more vulnerable than they, as children, already are.”

Robert Pattinson Parties with Friends at The Garage

Robert Pattinson partied with friends at a London bar last night, March 3.

The ‘Twilight’ hunk went along to trendy nightspot The Garage in Highbury and Islington with a big group of pals to support his friend Bobby Long, who was performing an acoustic set at the venue, but upset many female fans by refusing to pose for photographs with them.

One female reveler said, “He was shielded by his friends, but Rob leaned against the bar pint in hand. He was looking his usual yummily disheveled self, black leather jacket, skinny jeans and smouldering good looks, and most of the women in the room suddenly felt the need for another drink. A few were even brave enough to ask for photos, which he seemed to be mostly refusing.”

When the 23-year-old actor, who is dating his ‘Twilight’ co-star Kristen Stewart, began to get frustrated with all the unwanted attention, he and his friends tried to hide in the bar’s outside area.

The source added to Radar Online, “He dodged into the smoking area and was quickly surrounded by a wall of friends but just hung out with them, no one really bothered him and he just chatted away with people.”

However, Robert quickly started to grow bored of the cold and returned to the bar for another pint of beer, though he continued to maintain a low-profile.

The fan said, “Considering that the music was so upbeat, he was there with friends and had a couple of beers, I was surprised Rob wasn’t enjoying the music like everyone else. Instead, with no one bothering him, he just went back to his corner of the bar and hunched over another pint with his head down.”

Burt Reynolds Has Heart Surgery

Burt Reynolds has had heart surgery.

The 74-year-old actor is currently recovering at home, where he is being monitored 24 hours a day by nurses, after undergoing a dangerous quintuple bypass procedure on his vital organ last week.

His spokesman Erik Kritzer confirmed to Entertainment Tonight, “Mr. Reynolds has been released from a hospital in Florida in which he had a planned bypass operation. He wants to thank everyone for their good wishes and states that he has a great motor with brand new pipes and he is feeling great. Doctors plan on a speedy recovery.”

Burt was not rushed into the medical center for emergency treatment and is believed to have planned to have the procedure for some time.

His representative added, “All reports that are implying he was rushed to a hospital are completely untrue, as he has had this operation scheduled for over a month.”

Last year Burt completed a nine-month stay in a rehabilitation center for an addiction to painkillers.

The star sought help from rehabilitation clinic Florida’s Hanley Center in West Palm Beach after realizing he had become dependent on prescription medication following back surgery.

Ryan O’Neal Not Allowed to Visit Son From Rehab

Ryan O’Neal is not allowed to visit his son Redmond O’Neal in rehab.

The 68-year-old actor has been reportedly stopped from seeing his son, who he had with the late actress Farrah Fawcett, whilst he is staying in a residential treatment centre for substance abuse problems.

A source told Radar Online, “Ryan has been restricted from visiting Redmond while he is at Impact. It’s been determined that it’s in the best interest for Redmond’s treatment for Ryan to be visiting his son at this time.”

Redmond, 25, is currently staying at Impact, a residential treatment center in Pasadena, where he has previously been treated.

He appeared in court yesterday, March 3, for a progress report and was warned by Judge Michael Tynan he would not be allowed out until his treatment was complete.

The judge said, “You have to take a hard look at your life. You are still in trouble. I’m going to ask Impact to eliminate any home visits, you agree with that Redmond?”

Redmond agreed and is adamant he is trying harder now.

He said, “I’m doing better this time.”

His lawyer Richard Pintal added, “Redmond has kicked it up, and the progress report reflected that.”

It was during an earlier spell at a different Los Angeles treatment centre that Redmond relapsed and was sent back to jail last December.

He was found in possession of heroin during a routine security check by deputies in the car park of Pitchess Detention Center.

Redmond – who has battled drug addiction for several years and been arrested numerous times – has also been stricken by the loss of his mother, ‘Charlie’s Angels’ actress Farrah, who lost her battle with cancer on June 25 last year.

Heidi Klum’s Special Seal Show

Heidi Klum loves giving her husband Seal private fashion shows.

The 36-year-old supermodel works hard to keep the spark in their marriage alive and adores dressing up in the expensive jewels and gems given to her by her devoted singer spouse.

She said, “I love dressing up for him and putting on all the jewelery he gives me. It is such fun!”

Heidi and Seal, 47, been together since 2004 and raise four children together – daughters Leni, five, and four-month-old Lou, and sons Henry, four, and three-year-old Johan.

Speaking ahead of the romantic occasion, she said, “I’m making a very fun box of heart things. Kind of like an explosion of things; confetti hearts with cute underwear and chocolates. It’s a fun surprise box for him.”
