I don’t know that there are any chicks who grew up in the 80s that don’t have a crush on John Goodman, whether they admit it or not, even when he was severely chubby.

The actor has famously struggled with obesity, and reportedly weighed near 400 pounds in the mid-00s. And while Goodman looked much the same as he always has during the first season of HBO’s Treme, which is airing now, pictures taken of the 57-year-old actor looking dramatically thinner at last night’s AFI Tribute to Mike Nichols in LA have drawn a lot of attention.

The two pictures above show Goodman in 2004 on the right, and last night on the left. In the earlier picture, Goodman looks not only heavier, but markedly less healthy than the more recent shot. Goodman addressed his struggles with weight loss as far back as 1992 in an EW interview that’s getting a lot of linkage today:

”As my attitude got worse,” he says, ”my weight increased.” The irony is that it wasn’t until Goodman put on the weight that he got his big break, the role of Huck Finn’s hard-drinking father in the 1985 Broadway musicalBig River.

Goodman is sensitive about his weight, which now hovers around 300 pounds. Compliment him on his grace (several films, such as Stella and Always, have allowed him the space to improvise a short dance number), and he’ll shrug it off with, ”Oh, yeah, right — like the hippos in Fantasia.” (His fans are sensitive to fat jokes too: When good pal Jay Leno ribbed Goodman on a recent Tonight Show, NBC got hit with angry calls and cards.) ”I lose it, I gain it back,” he says. ”No big deal.” But if it’s no big deal, why does he keep trying to take it off? He smiles. ”I dance better when I’m thin.”

Goodman’s publicist didn’t specifically discuss the actor’s strategy for weight loss, and only cited “diet and exercise” as the reason for the change.

Katy Perry claims love has boosted her confidence.

The ‘California Gurls’ singer, who is engaged to Russell Brand, no longer worries about other people’s opinions of her because she will always have the support of the British funnyman.

She said, “It’s weird, you know, when you fall in love and have someone that really kind of supports you, you stop really worrying about like, all this make-up you have to wear or what everybody thinks about you, because the person that you love, loves you back.”

However, the 25-year-old beauty admits she still has “idiotic moments”, but claims her team of assistants keep her grounded.

She said, “I have my idiotic moments too. I take it one day at a time and I have a really good support system. I have a good team. I don’t end up wasted, with my face down in alleyways. I kind of like, steer the ship pretty good so that I don’t hit any icebergs.”

Discussing her new single ‘California Gurls’, Katy claims she wanted to make an anthem for the US state to rival Alicia Keys’ song ‘Empire State of Mind’, which is about New York.

She explained to US TV show ‘Access Hollywood’, “I heard ‘Empire State of Mind’ and I love that song. There’s been, you know, ‘California Love’ and there’s been ‘California Girls’ by the Beach Boys, which is probably one of my favourites and I just thought, how perfect to kind of take that idea and give it my spin.”

Mad Men actress January Jones crashed her Range Rover into three parked cars last night, a collision she says was contributed to by paparazzi tailing her.

Oddly, Jones called celebrity chef Bobby Flay, who she had met once before last night, to accompany her at the scene of the crash. Flay, who commented today on the incident to TMZ, seemed bemused:

We spoke with Flay, who tells us he was watching the basketball game last night at The London West Hollywood Hotel with a group of people that included Jones.  Flay says he saw her drink a beer but wasn’t really watching her alcohol intake.  Flay says he had only met Jones once before, and last night she asked for his number because she wanted to redo her kitchen and give his number to her designer.  Flay obliged, and says he doesn’t know why Jones chose to call him after the crash, but nonetheless he drove over to help her.  He says he did not argue but just wanted to make sure she was ok.

Although Jones blamed pursuing paparazzi for “blinding” her prior to the crash, witnesses say that there were no photographers at the scene- a claim backed up by a lack of photos of the crash. What’s more, witnesses claim Jones smelled “like a brewery” and was clearly intoxicated at the time of the accident. Police reportedly did not administer field sobriety tests because the actress was absent from the scene for nearly an hour- TMZ claims that cops confirmed there is no way to charge someone who leaves the scene of suspected DUI with drinking and driving charges, as they could conceivably go home and have a drink in the interim.

Teri Hatcher “scored big points” with her daughter by introducing her to Justin Bieber.

The ‘Desperate Housewives’ actress’ made 12-year-old Emerson’s day when she set up a photo with the teen pop superstar at the Digital Content Newfront Conference launch of her new website GetHatched in New York on Wednesday, June 9.

She told People, “I got her a chance to get a picture with Justin Bieber. That was a highlight, and I scored some big points with her.”

Teri always makes time for her daughter, but admits she sometimes finds it tough to balance her work with her family life.

She explained, “There are times when I really need to separate those things – just be the worker or just be the mom.

“Too often, I think, women try to do everything at the same time. I have friends that are technically driving their kids to school but also looking at their BlackBerry and trying to deal with office messages.

“The stress on the kids and yourself is a disservice to us, and I think we are better off compartmentalising. It’s hard, but it does work for me.”

Teri’s new website, a venture with Disney, is an online forum just for women to allow them to chat and have “intimate conversations” with her about the problems they face in their daily lives.

Talking about GetHatched.com, the 45-year-old actress previously said, “I just want to create a go-to respite for women where they can find a shoulder to lean on. I hope what you get from it is a sense of honesty, candidness and the understanding that wacky things happen to all of us. I love to get at problems through humour.”

Jessica Biel doesn’t like kissing scenes.

The ‘A-Team’ actress, who locks lips with Bradley Cooper in the forthcoming action movie, insists there is nothing romantic about getting close to her hunky co-stars because an on-screen smooch is so technical.

She explained, “It’s not at all hot. There’s a bazillion people around, everyone’s in your face fixing things. It’s very technical and precise. Your face has to be in the right place and the camera has to be at the right angle. So it’s not romantic.”

The 28-year-old beauty also hates getting in shape for her film roles because she has to completely overhaul her usual lifestyle.

She added to E! Online, “It is so challenging, I did it for ‘Stealth’ and ‘Blade’ and it is not fun, so I felt for everybody as they were eating their chicken and vegetables and brown rice. Your whole world is different and it gets into your head a little bit. “

Although she hates exercise, Jessica, who is dating Justin Timberlake, recently had to get to her physical peak when she undertook a grueling trek up Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa for charity.

Although she completed the challenge, the actress was in tears by the time she reached the top of the mountain.

She said, “Right before we made it to Stella Point, which is right around 19,000 feet and you come to this plateau and you feel you’ve made it – then you realise you have 330 more feet to go and you find it feels impossible.

“As we made the hour-long walk to the peak I was in tears. I only had one walking stick left at that point and I was a complete and utter mess. I couldn’t move forward at that point, but I did.”

P. Diddy won’t be Russell Brand’s best man.

The ‘Hello Good Morning’ rapper, who stars alongside the British funnyman in new movie ‘Get Him to the Greek,’ can’t wait for the upcoming ceremony but has revealed he has not been given the important role because generally his friends’ girlfriends don’t trust him.

He told The Sun newspaper, “I’m not his best man but if I get invited, I’ll be there.

“I kind of get banned from stuff like that before the wedding. The wives always say, ‘Stay away from Puffy.’ ”

However, to make sure he has a special role in the couple’s upcoming nuptials P. Diddy, real name Sean Combs, is writing a song to help celebrate the special occasion.

He told the Daily Mirror newspaper, “Russell’s the man. He’s a singer too like me but he’s a rock star and dresses like one too. I’m gonna get my new group Diddy Dirty Money to write a song for his wedding to Katy. She’s really tamed him. He’s a cool guy, but he’s not as wild as he used to be. He’s ready to settle down with Katy now.”

The 40-year-old hip-hop star also plans to get guests at the star-studded bash “rocking” during the evening.

He added, “I’m the best at parties so I’m gonna get him rocking out and everyone dancing. I’m like the ‘King of England’ and Jay-Z is ‘King of France’ when it comes to parties. It’s going to be wild.”

Miley Cyrus is scared of getting dumped.

The 17-year-old singer worries her 20-year-old Australian boyfriend Liam Hemsworth could leave the US, and her, at any time.

In an interview with Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS-FM radio show, she said, “I don’t want to be heartbroken. He could go back to Australia any second. But I’m happy. It’s different from anyone else because he really is just an awesome friend too.”

Although the pair have been dating for a year, after meeting on the set of movie ‘The Last Song’, Miley admits she has a crush on ‘17 Again’ star Zac Efron.

She said, “He’s gorgeous, he’s hot, I don’t go see his movies because I’m like, ‘He’s such a fantastic actor.’ He’s a great actor, but he’s hot.”

The ‘Can’t Be Tamed’ singer also spoke about how she is determined to stay away from drugs, but is looking forward to being able to drink when she is old enough.

She said, “I’m not gonna be like, ‘I’ll never have a drink in my entire life,’ because that’s probably going to be a lie. There’s a right way to do so – everything is good in small portions.”

Lindsay Lohan’s assistant has quit her job.

Elinore left the position, which she held for just a few months, after deciding she couldn’t cope any longer with the ‘Mean Girls’ actress’ “24/7 demands” and erratic behaviour.

A source told RadarOnline.com, “Lindsay met Elinore through a mutual friend and she began spending more and more time at Lindsay’s apartment. She was still paying rent on her own place but essentially was living at Lindsay’s.

“After a few months, Lindsay’s up and down moods and her 24/7 demands just got to be too much. Lindsay can be really bossy and mean when she doesn’t get her own way and Elinore wasn’t even getting paid some of the time.”

Friends of the assistant had been encouraging her to leave for some time because they knew she wasn’t happy working for the 23-year-old star.

The source added, “Elinore’s friends were telling her to quit months ago. Even the person who introduced her to Lindsay was like, ‘Look, this is too much for you. You need to get out while you still can.

“But in the end, Lindsay’s demands became too much for her. She couldn’t take it anymore and she finally had to quit.”

Lindsay recently got in trouble with the law again after breaking the conditions of her recent probation for driving under the influence (DUI) convictions.

Her bail was increased to $200,000 after the alcohol-monitoring SCRAM bracelet, which is worn on her ankle, went off at a party following the MTV Movie Awards last weekend.

Under the court ordered conditions Lindsay is not allowed to drink.

Russell Brand knew he would “change” as soon as he saw Katy Perry.

The British funnyman, who has been dating the singer since last September, insists he always puts his fiancee first and is happy to have renounced his womanizing ways.

He said, “I knew as soon as I saw her. My instinct was to change myself and not her. And that is a really positive thing.

“In the past, I would plunder my way through life, elbowing things out of the way, and I don’t really compromise very much unless people want to persuade me that it’s necessary.

“But with Katy, I wanted to listen to her and let her be who she is. I’d never want to do anything she didn’t want. She’s a whirling Catherine wheel of a person.”

The ‘Get Him to the Greek’ star also admitted monogamy has given him a lot more free time.

He explained to Grazia magazine, “It is liberating, you get a lot more free time. I’m getting a lot more exercise, I can tell you that.

“Yoga, down the gym, table tennis.”

Justin Bieber is looking for a “confident” girlfriend.

The 16-year-old singer admits he is keen to find a girl to spend some time with, but she has to fit the mould.

He said, “I like someone who’s funny, confident and not afraid to be herself.”

Justin also revealed he is not keen on girls wearing Ugg boots or oversized sunglasses.

He revealed, “I think Uggs are ugly. And I think big sunglasses are kind of overrated. I like big sunglasses but not those huge, round ones.”

Despite being picky about what a girl wears, he may have little time for a girlfriend, as by the time he turns 17 he hopes to be busy with his career.

He told Seventeen magazine, “I would like to have a second album out and be touring, and hopefully have my own charity by then.”

The ‘Baby’ hitmaker was recently revealed as being a big fan of searching for news about himself on the internet.

Sean Kingston, who worked with Justin on the song ‘Eenie Meenie’ – revealed the teen star enjoyed looking himself up.

He said, “Justin does that, he loves to Youtube himself and Google himself, I’m not like that.”
