I realize we aren’t even close to the end of the year yet but that hasn’t stopped Sci Fi Wire from pulling together a list of 20 anticipated science fiction movies for 2011. Personally I think they are pulling at straws to get even twenty and some of their picks don’t even come close to making it onto my radar. So I’m going to rework their list a little bit and come up with my own – from least excitable to the one I can’t wait for.
At number 20: The Green Hornet.
Now granted I am only going by the trailer that I have seen of it but I definitely think this belongs at the bottom of any list and is destined for a Raspberry Award.
Number 19: Transformers 3.
Can we please just declare this one dead and buried. Please.
Number 18: The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1
Okay to be honest this one was a toss up for 19 or even 20 but I figured if I ranked it that low no amount of garlic would save me from the hoards of brain dead fans of the movie. Sorry but jeez instead of gagging me with that silver spoon just stab my eyes out so I don’t have t o see anymore about this movie.
Number 17: Rise of the Apes
Please God no. The original was great in its time but enough already regardless of whether they are calling it a prequel or not.
Number 16: Red Riding Hood
Seriously?!?! Man we really are getting desperate.
Number 15: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows, Part II
Enough already. Hasn’t Harry gone through puberty yet and gone on to better things – like Jersey Shore?
Number 14: Immortals
Okay I realize t hat Mickey is on a roll but enough with the mythology crap already. Clash of the Titans should have been enough of a warning.
Number 13: Real Steel
Should have left the robots in the junk pile. C’mon Hugh baby you can do better than this.
Number 12: The Thing
Yet another prequel – and we know how those things work out. Now if it was the Swamp Thing it might be a different story. Ah Adrienne how we miss you.
Number 11: Cowboys & Aliens
I don’t care if it is Jon “Can Do No Wrong” Favreau directing this it still isn’t going to end.
Number 10: The Night Chronicles: Devil
Hmm .. a group of people stuck in an elevator and one of them is the Devil. How do you think this is going to end up .. me, I’m not all that sure about it.
Number 9: Contagion
Sorry but this sounds like a re-make of Andromeda Strain but with a cast like Matt Damon, Laurence Fishburne, Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow it might have potential.
Number 8: I am Number Four
Okay we have a bunch of hunted aliens hiding out on Earth from their otherworld bad guys that want to kill them. Eh, it might be alright.
Numbere 7: Sucker Punch
It’s definitely a plot that can make one go – WTH?!? but with Zack Snyder directing it could prove to be very interesting.
Number 6: Super 8
Okay this one is already getting a lot of hype and given that it is a JJ Abrams project and involves escaping aliens I expect that it will do really well. It’s just not my cup of tea.
Number 5: X-Men – First Class
What can I say I am an X-Men fan and I am truly hoping that they manage to rescue the franchise from oblivion with this effort.
Number 4: Captain America
Well on the next three I match up with Sci Fi Wire’s list as this is where they also had the highly anticipated Captain America. There is probably more riding on the success of this movie that most people might realize as it is one of the linchpins of Marvel’s future movie aspirations with the Avengers.
Number 3: Thor
Okay I admit it I am a Thor fan and I am really hoping that they pull this movie off. It could lead to a whole new off-shoot of super hero movies which could be a lot of fun (but then I also have a lot of hope for Dr. Strange).
Number 2: Green Lantern
What can you say other than Please Don’t Suck!
Number 1: Battle Los Angeles
This could be a 2011 action movie dark horse. Almost a Halo but not so far in the future and happening on your street corner.
80s pop stars Debbie Gibson and Tiffany have a new gig together, and it’s not even at the mall.
The two former “rivals” have been cast in a Syfy Saturday night movie, set to begin shooting next month. The film, Mega Python vs. Gatoroid, won’t air until next year, but The Hollywood Reporter seems to think it will be pretty epic:
Gibson will play a fanatical animal-rights activist who frees illegally imported exotic snakes from pet stores, sending them into the Everglades, where they grow to mega sizes. Tiffany will play an overzealous park ranger who uses dangerous methods to save endangered alligators.
In the script, the pair brawl at a party, then take matters outside into the swamp.
Both Tiffany and Debbie Gibson have been in Syfy films before, but this is the first time the former pop stars will share the small screen. An exec at Syfy says the casting is a knock at the pair’s supposed rivalry at the height of their popularity in the 80s:
Executive vp programming and original movies Thomas Vitale said the idea was hatched by Syfy’s creative team after Tiffany visited their office and said she always has wanted to work with Gibson; the media often portrayed the duo as rivals during their MTV years.
“They loved the idea of taking this perceived rivalry and having some fun with it,” Vitale said.
If the 80s are a neon blur of styrofoam McDonald’s boxes and Alf in your memory, the two videos below might jog your memory. Top is Gibson singing junior high dance classic “Lost in Your Eyes,” bottom is Tiffany’s roller rink hit “I Think We’re Alone Now.”
Harrison Ford wore jeans at his wedding to Calista Flockhart.
The ‘Indiana Jones’ actor shunned designer clothes and dressed down in a pair of denim Wrangler pants for the nuptials, which took place last week.
Calista didn’t object to her groom’s laid back style choice and donned a simple white sundress for the outdoor ceremony.
Friends of the couple insist the no-frills wedding is a sign of their commitment to each other.
Bernie Pollack, a close friend of Harrison, told People, “They’re both honest in their approach to life and to each other. This (marriage) will only enhance what they already had.”
Harrison, 67, and Calista, 45, tied the knot at the Santa Fe mansion of New Mexico’s state governor Bill Richardson – who presided over the ceremony with the assistance of the state’s Chief Justice, Charles W. Daniels.
The ‘Brothers and Sisters’ actress’ nine-year-old son Liam was the ring bearer when the couple exchanged bands and a set of simple vows.
The actor has been in New Mexico shooting the action-fantasy movie ‘Cowboys & Aliens’, and he took a short break for his wedding, but was back on-set a few days later.
The couple, who got engaged 16 months ago, first met at the 2002 Golden Globe Awards.
A Lady Gaga fan reportedly paid $1 million to appear in her new music video.
A Russian billionaire gave the pop singer the huge sum for the chance to star alongside her in the nine-minute promo for ‘Alejandro’.
The wealthy admirer, who is only known as Arkady, can be spotted in the video playing a cop dressed in a black leather hat and coat.
The 30 year old said, “Yes it was me in the clip, but I can’t give further details.”
Gaga is also said to have been sworn to secrecy about his part in the promo.
The short film has attracted criticism for its religious overtones, which include the ‘Poker Face’ singer swallowing rosary beads whilst dressed as a nun.
Director Steven Klein insists the themes in the video aren’t meant to upset Christians, saying, “It’s not meant to denote anything negative. It represents the character’s battle between the dark forces of this world and the spiritual salvation of the Soul. Thus at the end of the film, she chooses to be a nun, and the reason her mouth and eyes disappear is because she is withdrawing her senses from the world of evil and going inward towards prayer and contemplation.”
The singer is currently working as a judge on Simon Cowell’s pop star search show ‘The X Factor’, and has been introduced by the music mogul by her maiden name Cheryl Tweedy.
Simon joked with the crowd about her name change as Cheryl, who requested a “quickie” divorce from her England soccer player husband Ashley Cole in May, walked into the audition room at yesterday’s heat in London yesterday, June 23.
Simon said, “Who would like to hear from Cheryl…Tweedy? It is, now, isn’t it?”
An onlooker said there was a roar of applause for Cheryl as she walked in and the audience all stood up to welcome the ‘Fight for This Love’ singer.
Another member of the audience said, “Cheryl’s face didn’t give much away. Simon was sort of joshing but she didn’t laugh or look annoyed.”
Cheryl, 26, is now going to have laser treatment to remove her “Mrs C” tattoo she has on the back of her neck.
The pop star cited “unreasonable behaviour” as the reason behind the end of their three-and-a-half-year marriage, after numerous women claimed to have slept with Ashley during their relationship.
Just two months after splitting from her on/off love, New Orleans Saints running back Reggie Bush, the reality TV star has been spotted with a new guy.
Kim, 29, is believed to be dating another NFL football player, Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Miles Austin.
A source told National Enquirer magazine, “It’s not just a revenge relationship. Kim has really fallen for Miles and the feeling is mutual.”
Another source close to the apparent new couple told People, “They met at a restaurant in Los Angeles a few months ago and exchanged numbers and have been talking ever since. They’ve had a few dates and it’s going really well.”
Despite enjoying a string of dates, the pair are not yet officially an item.
The source said, “They’re taking it slow. She thinks he’s a really good guy.”
Russell Brand is to have a Robin Hood-style stag party.
The 34-year-old comic star, who is set to marry ‘California Gurls’ hitmaker Katy Perry in the autumn, and his friends will be the “merry men” at the bash, which is held to mark the end of a man’s bachelor status.
He explained, “I’ll do adventurous things and activities. My friend who is my best man says we’re going to go white-water rafting and shoot arrows.
“We’ll be like merry men. Perhaps we’ll become outlaws, bandits for a while.”
The ‘Get Him to the Greek’ star, who proposed to Katy in December after a three-month whirlwind romance, is also “not worried” about the best man speech his manager Nick Linnen will deliver on the big day.
He said in a British radio interview on the Capital Breakfast Show with Johnny Vaughan and Lisa Snowdon, “I’m not worried about the best man speech – that’s for Nick to worry about. He’s got to do it.
“Nick has stopped me from doing some seriously stupid things in my life, which could have made it a lot worse. I trust him completely. There isn’t much more he can say that people don’t know about. I took drugs and I slept with prostitutes.”
Russell recently admitted he had been asking his famous friends, such as former Oasis rocker Noel Gallagher, for tips on how to keep his wife-to-be happy.
He revealed, “I asked Noel how to get by in a relationship and he said, ‘Just say yes to everything they say.’ It works, I’ve been using that system and it’s working well.”
The ‘Hero’ singer, who is married to rapper-and-presenter Nick Cannon, reportedly owes just under $30,000 in unpaid bills for Dr. Cindy Bressler’s services for her pets.
The veterinarian filed claims in a New York court yesterday, June 23, alleging the pop star has paid just $8,200 towards the $37,800 worth of charges for “extraordinary services” given to her three dogs, JJ, Cha Cha and Dolomite in one month.
The filing states Cindy tended to the pets “at the special instance and request” of Mariah between October 31 and December 2 2009.
It added, “She rendered veterinary services including extraordinary services to the defendant’s canines. Dr. Bressler performed work, labour and services on the defendant’s canines… at the agreed price and reasonable value of $37,790.32, which sum Mariah agreed to pay.”
If Cindy’s claim is successful Mariah will also have to pay her legal costs making the final total sum higher.
Cindy’s attorney told gossip website TMZ the vet was in charge of feeding and grooming the pooches while Mariah was away in Los Angeles.
A spokesperson for 41-year-old Mariah said her legal team were not aware of the lawsuit.
The Sugababes singer admits her toned figure is down to her love for the unusual workout sessions, which consist of a series of body-contorting postures performed in temperatures of 105 degrees Fahrenheit, which make her “sweat like mad”.
She told Closer magazine, “It’s amazing – it’s yoga but in a heated room like a sauna. You sweat like mad and all the toxins pour out of you! I swear by it and I think I’m looking pretty good at the moment.”
Amelle is not the only star to enjoy exercising in suffocating conditions, with celebrities including Lily Allen, Jim Carrey, and even Ashton Kutcher and his wife Demi Moore admitting their love for the work out.
Demi recently said, “Although Ashton and I have started Bikram yoga. You’re sweating so badly, you realise very quickly that no one cares what you look like, you’re all just trying to get through the 90 minutes.”
Brooklyn Decker’s “dream” came true playing Adam Sandler’s love interest.
The model-and-actress, who was recently named Esquire magazine’s Sexiest Woman Alive, thinks working with the actor on new movie ‘Just Go With It’ was the perfect way to break into the film industry.
She said, “I just wrapped my first film ‘Just Go With It’ and that was definitely the most exciting thing I’ve done. It was a big first for me. It really opened up a whole new field for me to go into, and I just felt really lucky to go to work on such a big movie. It was really cool to be a part of that and learn the process of acting.
“I’m Adam Sandler’s love interest, so it’s a very funny romantic comedy. There are lots of twist and turns. It’s just a funny, happy, feel-good movie. And he was just a dream to work with, so supportive. It was just one of those dream scenarios.”
The 23-year-old blonde beauty, who portrays Adam’s plastic surgeon character’s younger girlfriend, was also thrilled to star alongside Jennifer Aniston and Nicole Kidman because she was able to learn so much from them.
Brooklyn, who is married to tennis player Andy Roddick, added to Parade.com, “They’re such pros. They’re two professionals and to see them work was such a privilege.
“Jennifer looks amazing. She’s beautiful. We showed up to work every day and we did the best we could. That included wearing bikinis. It was just fun, we had a really good time together.”
